Remodeling Design Dilemma

Help needed with exterior makeover!

I am replacing the roof, gutters, front door and garage door. The windows are staying for now, but I'm willing to paint the aluminum trim. The shutters gotta go. I want the house to look more modern and MDM. I need advice on colors and how to handle the gable above the garage door. Thank you!

Your roof harmonizes very well with the brick, but the wood gable below is great. You could do that and a wood garage door (There are wood garage covers if you're just trying to change the finish). Notice how the landscaping is more geometric in the "after."

If your budget is limited to maybe paint and column wraps I would do the columns, but probably not with a Craftsman style which doesn't really work with the house. A beefier square column, painted the trim color would work. I would look at painting the shutters a color other than brown. Right now the entire house is monotone. A bright color on the front door to make it a focal point (I like the teal chair color for the front door).

-Replace the siding (not sure what colour?) and re-brick over the red brick portion of the house. [why rebrick?] - Replace the pillar with something more craftsman style. [no. This is not a craftsman style house and No room.] - Enlarge the window above the garage (this is the main bedroom) by doing a cut down enlargement. [yes!!] - New shutters (not sure what colours) [no shutters. Shutters are dated except for a couple styles of home.] - Replace the garage door (again, colours are a ??) - Maybe window box planters underneath the other front windows. [no. Too high maintenance. A bed w good for season interest will get you more than boxes. They don’t look good year round]. - New door [color statement] - New garage door and garage light - Change up the landscaping a bit...no idea how though [what is sun for front yard? approximate growing zone?] - Add a lamp post maybe [no!]

The concrete planter around your tree is an interesting (and assumedly original?) feature, but nothing else in your landscape “talks” to it so to speak. With midcentury homes I think ‘poured-in-place’ concrete always looks good— it’s not that different from your paver idea, just at a more appropriate scale & function. Here’s a really bad rendering done with a fat thumb on my phone, but the gist would be to have larger rectangular concrete sections (could be gravel or grass in between) that abut your concrete planter, and having those surrounded by some nice native grasses with a another planted section in the middle, and then echo those same plants in your raised concrete planter around tree). I'll show you some others below, but here is a similar layout like yours all brick. the roof makes a huge improvement, as do landcaping, garage door, and the siding around a new door.

is this what you had in mind? again, landscaping is 75% of the overall curb appeal

your pic is too tiny for me to any real photoshop,

but try taking a look over at Board And Batten, before and afters

if you painted (with Romabio) the brick white or charcoal, and did this color scheme, new doors, you get something like this
