Door Panels on cabinet ends or Finished Sides? (Ordering today)
Comments (19)I agree with susanka. Even if you ended up doing 1/2 of your door panels, that would be $600 saved, which is a very nice high-end kitchen faucet, or warming drawer (have seen several new ones on CL for $400 range), etc. I definitely wouldn't do your cabs near the sink, but maybe would consider it for the desk area, since it's more 'furniture' than just kitchen cabs. The french doors on the left: are they going out side, and usually closed, or are they going to another room, and will usually be open? I'm trimming out the bookcase at the end of my island, since it's somewhat exposed, but won't worry about my cabinet ends, since I only have one that would face the family room, and hopefully it won't be too noticeable, since it's sitting at the end of my large peninsula/eating bar....See Moreend panels, furniture ends?? help!
Comments (16)khallock, I don't think plywood ends is the same as furniture ends. You know that little indent behind the face frame where the sides meet the front? That is eliminated with furniture ends because the side wood is thicker. I think plywood ends is just better quality than stock ends, but is still the same thickness, leaving that little indent. Here is a pic of furniture ends, the sides meet smoothly like on furniture. (not the molding part, but the part next to the door.) The pics by a2gemini shows the door panel meeting the faceframe flush, but on the right of her pic you can see a cab where that little lip is, the lip that furniture ends eliminates. I don't know how door/end panel would go on with that little lip.... As far as diy, we don't have a table saw but can borrow one. My brother does a ton of work with habitat for humanity and has built dressers out of wood, so he could help in a pinch. We can handle a level (have several) and a miter saw, but we are replacing stock cabinets with stock cabinets so don't anticipate much cutting. We'll have a granite guy reinstall our granite, so I know he will double check the level of the lowers (as he did during original install.) Luckily, we are not afraid to eat out (and do too much!) so if we have to stop and hire a contractor mid install, we will....See Moreapplied end panels vs no end panel
Comments (4)I'm having a little trouble envisioning what you mean by applied end panels. I have side panels on my cabinets and wouldn't have it any other way. They just make the cabinets looks so much more finished and beautiful. I recently had the master bath cabinets painted and added the end panels and wow what a difference! They went from looking builder grade to furniture quality. I will try to add some pics, photobucket is not as easy as it used to be, I had more to show but it's just nearly impossible to get photos to show up in photobucket and it takes forever. The first two photos are my house and the 3rd one is a show house in our area from a few months ago....See MoreWhere to install outlets on large island with finished end panels
Comments (17)We ordered unfinished cherry switchplates from Arnev.com, and our KD had our cabinet company stain/finish them to match our cabinets. We were able to specify the grain pattern and orientation (vertical or horizontal), as well as edge design (we wanted flat, straight edges, rather than beveled). We even got to choose the screw color/metal/finish....See Morelynetta51
