Help ! How do we finish the end panels

We bought the kitchen cabinets for our cabin from Craigs List. The doors are maple and in good condition and the boxes were in ok shape. We had them painted with auto body paint a pale yellow. There are several things that need finishing and the cabinets will be moved out just past the bullhead so we can put a small crown on top. We also need to put the small edging on the boxes to hide the lighting that's going in.

The problem at this point is how to finish the end caps. There isn't enough room to put matching door panels on them plus the cost doesn't make sense for a cabin. 1/8 inch maple veneer is what we are thinking put the raw edge that meets the cabinet door will show. I've looked for maple sheeting the has one edge finished but no luck. Also how to apply it, will glue hold it. Since the cabinets have been painted with auto body paint we may not get the same finish if we nail it and fill the holes and paint it ourselves. All the finishing pieces will be sent to the painter before they are installed. Any ideas would be of great help to us.
