Wood species for painted entry door - Doug Fir vs Sapele

I'm getting a new wood entry and screen door. The entry door will be 2/3 or 3/4 lite. The door faces west with enough overhang to shade it until the late afternoon and also from rain. I live in the Bay Area so our climate is moderate.

I was thinking of staining the entry door and painting the screen, but I think I will paint both of them, as paint seems to require less maintenance and redoing over time. The screen door isn't a storm door and will always be in place, i.e., it will provide some protection for the actual entry door.

When I was thinking of stain, I planned on getting Sapele which is only about $300 more than Douglas Fir (Simpson). It seems a shame to get Sapele and then paint it, unless it's a better wood all around.

For a painted front door with some sun exposure, does the wood species matter as much?
