Help me pick a coffee maker
Comments (63)Knock, knock! Anybody still here? Any Plain Jane coffee maker suggestions for a non-coffee-snob, non-foodie? DH drinks two cups of coffee at breakfast. I have one cup, cafe au lait. (Acid tummy.) Our 15-year-old Krups drip coffee maker with thermal carafe is acting up -- failing to use all the water in the reservoir, despite de-scaling with vinegar. It uses #4 Melitta cones. I use a separate small burr grinder. I warm the thermal carafe before making coffee. My main objectives are a decent brewing temperature, a thermal carafe, and a medium-low price point. Among the medium priced five drip coffee makers that Consumer Reports says reach high enough water temps, only the Capresso MT600 did not have bad user reviews on the carafe. (Complaints about drips; some people resorting to pouring *over the sink*.) Costco has a Capresso CM300 for $60. The MT600's MSP is $140. Would you encourage/discourage me from buying either one? (At least I could return the CM300 with no loss.) Would you encourage any of the 'pod' type coffee makers? (I would not be spending hundreds per year on pre-made pods, but using our own freshly ground beans.)...See MoreHelp me pick a coffee table
Comments (10)#1 is almost the same in size and shape of the table you already have, though the finish is different. It's no wonder you like it. #3 is too slight in scale to compete with the size of your various sofas and loveseats. I've included a selection of various style coffee tables that would be successful additions to your family room. All are from Ashley Furniture except the last selection. I noticed in one of your pictures there was a lap top computer on the floor. You might consider a lift top coffee table illustrated as the last selection in this grouping. of coffee tables. This feature would provide an additional work surface for someone using their computer in the family room. In addition, this table has concealed casters that allow it to be rolled where it's needed. Just a thought. Here is a link that might be useful: Lift Top Coffee Table...See MoreHelp me pick a backsplash - round 2
Comments (32)Try showing DH pictures of counters patterned like yours with busy/patterned backsplashes like your samples and then those with plain backsplashes to give DH a sense of how each type looks with the strong-patterned counters. One of the best pieces of advice I got was “one ‘star’ in the kitchen, and yours is the counter...then the floor. I am not a fan of shinny, solid subway either but love crackle tile; it gives a subtlety that does not compete. Both Loews and Home Depot sell crackle wall tiles. You might also consider something other than the typical subway size...you could go larger/longer sizes. I saw several types of solid tiles at HD today that would compliment your counters, and they were not the typical, solid subway types. I get budget but the little, varied sized tile sheets; the arabesque shapes; and the stone patterns all are too busy with your counters...they compete instead of compliment. There are better budget friendly choices out there. Good luck!...See MoreHelp me pick a coffee table for my Old Hollywood home theatre!
Comments (35)Hey everyone! I was looking for coffee table decor and just stumbled on this old post of mine. Thought I’d update you on what I’ve done with the space during quarantine. I still need to (somehow?) figure out how to make a cornice so I can complete the upper portion of the curtains. So please ignore what looks like a valance, it’s just fabric thrown up there to hide the curtain rod! I just ordered a round tufted leather ottoman with casters yesterday and can’t wait to see it in the space! If anyone has any ideas on the Ottoman, let me know. I definitely want a mirrored tray but not sure what to put on it yet....See Moresmalloldhouse_gw
