My finished height from room floor to top of frameless door is just shy of 80". My shower pan is about 3" and my glass is 77". The tile takes up the difference in the 3" rough in shower pan. I have 8 foot ceiling I am happy with this height.

The glass door in question is for our condo. At home we have a glass shower door that is 34" X 72" on a 6" threshold. The combined height of 78" is more than adequate. Our shower is at the end of our tub. Glass between tub and shower is also 78" above shower floor.

This is looking less like 'science' and more like 'whatever suits you'. I don't want the new door to look 'skinny-minny' and I don't want to over spend for it. (Bids on the 76" glass are $1700 - $1900, installed.)

So...again...

1. Do glass doors come in 72" heights?

2. Are they less expensive than 76" tall doors?

3. Is there any functional problem with a door 78" high? (Is there a 'steam' issue -- standard opening between top of door and shower ceiling?)

Hinged Frameless Shower Doors from a glass shop are mostly all custom made so you can get nay height you want. Box store crap I do not know about,

I know I can get any size I want. I'm asking if there is any practical guide about how high the door needs to be.

My doors are nicely lined up with my rain shower head. That is about 8o to 84" above the bathroom floor.

Enduring -- That's the sort of thing I need to know. I won't have a rain shower, but I think the top of the glass only *needs* to be as high as the shower head. It only *needs* to keep the water from spraying out. (What a pretty shower!)

Wow, enduring, I honestly did not know that double glass shower doors were available. That looks like a great feature for aging in place if one needs assistance, as well as for greater ease in cleaning the shower. You really do have a lovely shower. What material was used for the walls?

My apologies to the OP for digressing from the original question. That information is also most helpful as never thought about height of shower doors.

Hi Texasgal, I did plan the doors to work for aging in place. I got the doors from a local shower door company. The doors are about 30" each. They are well mounted on blocking behind the tile.

I've taken a lot of wheelchairs in and out of tight spots over the years and I think this could work. Or at least offer a nice option to transfer from W/C to shower seat. The shower pan is 3" from the floor, easy to lift a W/C over. The tile is a lovely tile from Italy. Its Marvel Calacatta Extra in the matt finish with coefficient of friction >0.40. I only have it on the walls, the shower pan is a Kohler cast iron 36x60 with center drain. Very practical. No fixed bench to get in the way.

My glass door is 74, the installers said that 72 was the common but I could choose what height I wanted. Went w/74, as I felt it was more than tall enough for shower head placement, which was at 72, but my dh is 6'3, and I wanted to be sure to account for his showering height, to cover any water splashing. Fwiw, we have not received our door yet, will come in tomorrow. But after using a flimsy shower curtain at about 70, I think 74 is more than accommodating. Oh, and ours is around $900.
