I am no design expert so I am sure others will chime in that have more experience than me. Since you said your floor tile is already busy, and you want to go with a busy skinny brick backsplash, on the wall that has the range and hood, I would only put that skinny brick behind the stove and hood and go straight up to the ceiling. I personally would not do the entire wall with that tile. Y'know that saying "too much of a good thing"? That's what I think of when you say you want to tile the entire wall. The tile looses it's uniqueness (is that such a word?) when it's everywhere. Plus, if your floor is busy, and your countertops will be busy with granite, and your wall is super busy, your eye will be drawn to all these different surfaces and textures. It's not a soothing look. All three textures will be competing with each other. The wall with the sink....does it have a window in it? Are the cabinets on that wall? Again, I would not tile the entire wall, only up to underneath the cabinets (assuming there are some there). I personally would have one texture be the focal point, whether it be the countertops, backsplash or floor. I really love the tile around the fireplace so I personally would choose that as the dominant texture and have the other surfaces more soothing, if that makes sense. When you mention painted crown moulding, I am assuming you mean on the walls and not on the cabinets. I think you would be fine with white above the cabinets since the cabinets do not go up to the ceiling. I have also seen crown moulding on top of tile, should you decide to tile the entire wall. sueb20: I love the names of paint, that sounds beautiful and, interestingly enough, it was the kind of color that I wanted to find for the siding of our home; we finally went vinyl to my husband's delight. I found the color on BM's virtual fan and I'll be pulling that color when I go to the store next week. It's overwhelming when I go there and to think that I'm going to need to find the right colors for five other rooms; OMG! Thank you for your suggestion.

I think the bottom line is this: what will you put in the corner (or drawers) in each situation? As I was planning my kitchen layout, I wrote down what was in each cabinet (or stored elsewhere, that I wanted in the kitchen). Then I went through the new layout, putting things away where they made sense - dishes near the DW, utensils and pot holders near the range, glasses near the sink, etc. I measured my crock pot, mixer, largest mixing bowl, etc and figured out where each would go. My super susan will hold things like crock pot, rice cooker, waffle iron, hand mixer, possibly a couple of cast iron frying pans. In the drawers around the closed off corner, I have things that I will use practically every day: dish towels, bags and wraps, cooking utensils, plastic containers, and dry good (flour, sugar, rice, etc). My old kitchen had 30"-tall upper; the new ones are 42", so I have an extra shelf all the way around. That is where I'll put things I don't need often - so I don't need more space for that purpose in the corner. Good luck with your decision!
