Help with exterior trim color for our brown house
Comments (37)lazydaisynot, I'm glad to hear that you think our existing door would look fine as is because this whole project will be happening in phases. We will replace outdoor lighting right when we move in in a couple weeks, then this spring/summer we will paint the front and back porches and the trim. The pillars and doors will hopefully be a project for next summer depending on how much we are able to save in the meantime. There are so many little projects that we have for the home, so we are forced to prioritize and compromise. So it's nice to know that our "work in progress" may still look somewhat put together along the way!...See MoreHelp with exterior paint please--what trim color goes where?
Comments (6)Thanks, for the ideas, Outside. Do a darker sage instead of black? Hmm yeah I could see that! The spouse was a little alarmed when I suggested black. :) Really, everything goes with the roof. It's quite neutral. The bricks aren't so neutral but not too bad as long as we don't do as the POs did and pick the ugliest one and match the paint to it. Yes, the cheap new windows installed by the PO are sort of cream colored vinyl clad (with 80s French blue trim--where's my goose in a bonnet?). In the back they are still simple aluminum framed. With blue trim. We do have a lot of stuff going on with the brick, stucco, cedar, siding...I had to tone down my landscaping materials because it was going to be just too many things fighting....See MoreHelp with coloring of exterior of house, (shingles, trim, body)
Comments (5)your house is more of spanish ranch, and the dream house is more of a tudor. what kind of roof are you doing? the same type or a clay spanish style, metal?? "I don't want my house to blend in or stand out like sore thumb". lol. well, then what would you like? If it doesn't blend in w/the others, it's going to stand out. It's good to be different. this body somewhat mimics yours and what you want, w/the pop outs done in a darker color. it still has the tile roof though. I don't care for the taupe-pink color, but imagine this in a warm white w/a tan or soft black trim. spanish styles look nice in soft whites w/black trim, some nice tile work or stone work on the body. this spanish style is one of my favorites. most homes like yours are light with a brown, black or that patina color of greenish/blue. do your home a favor and get a spanish style roof, or the metal roof (metal roof will last your lifetime). so some sort of talavera or saltillo type of tile. NM is the perfect place to have a home like this. why don't you look at Spanish Ranch homes and see if you find anything you like?...See MoreExterior Trim and Stucco Color for Red Brick House - HELP
Comments (4)I'm glad you're firm about not painting the brick. The brick is a natural, textured feature of your house that allows it to breathe and requires litte maintenance over time. Since you have a visible light brown roof, your trim needs to work with that as well as the brick. Here are houses with the same varieted brick as yours, one with a brown roof. You can pick up a greige for the trim with maybe a light blue or yellow door or this light green. Just don't do white--too much contrast. I'm showing this for the tan. Though the door is handsome and like yours, a lighter door might be better on your house since it's receded and looks too dark right now....See MoreUser
