I would have thought Ancestry would have plenty of money, and plenty to do, without getting into this. Maybe they figured they had a built-in audience to take advantage of.

You CAN go back to the old view on Ancestry.com. In the upper right-hand corner of the screen you will see your Ancestry username. Just to the right of your username is a "down arrow." Click on that. Look at all of the options (Member Profile, My Account, Site Preferences, etc.). There will be a choice for the previous layout (I forget what it says -- might be "old Ancestry" or "classic Ancestry"). Click on it. You will then get a box that will ask why you want to switch back. After you've answered the question, you will be reverted back to your preferred view.

Yes, it does seem to indicate that eventually everyone will be switched over to the new view, but if they get enough feedback from folks that they hate, hate, hate the new view, they could change their minds. If not, at least you'll have your preferred view in the interim.

Oh, I am using the classic view now but it won't be a choice before long. I did look at the New and Improved site. Twice. Hated everything about it. Ancestry doesn't care what the user thinks. When they did other stupid things and we gave our 2¢ they just plowed ahead and did what they wanted, not what we wanted. The comments idea is just to pacify us. Which it doesn't because we all know their mind is already made up. Money. It's all about the money. I'd like to know how much they spent making us so unhappy this time.
It's making it very easy to break the ancestry.com habit, though. Considering what I had tentatively budgeted for next year, I can do something else really nice for myself and it won't involve ancestry.com.
I'm getting everything off of there now. I'm so sorry I started the ancestry DNA but I will abandon it there and concentrate on Gedmatch. I found that the DNA matches at ancestry are the same people I have already made contact with and if I want to look harder, just search for family trees. My advice is save your money on the DNA kits. You will find the same people using the family tree search there. Use the connect feature or the contact button.

What is really worrisome is them collecting health information. Now, that is scary! They won't implement any way for us to work with our DNA data but they'll gladly write down every health problem we have. They aren't going to do anything that will help us; they're going to sell the information to 3rd parties.

Thanks for posting about Ancestory Health. Sadly, I am not surprised. After all, they usurped many trees submitted by users in the early days of its site. After a goodly sized data base had been built, they switched to a pay for view business without any compensation to those who had contributed family trees and information. After the switch, one had to pay to see his own files.

I'm not paid now but I can work on my trees. I have so many gripes about the site but until I can find somewhere else to put my tree, it's there. I want to move it somewhere. I've debated about taking it off of there but I need some way to find cousins. For whatever reason, there are less than a handful researching my family and we're all suck at the same places.

I have no idea what all this bru haha is about. Where on Ancestry old or new are they collecting health data? I have been trying the new version and don't see anything anywhere about health data. If I decided to share anything why would that bother you so much anyway? I am confused.
