Peperomia ?
Comments (15)P. obtusifolia is often referred to as baby rubber tree, so perfectly common to say so if that's what one thought it was. This one has a little pink and the leaves aren't as round, not terribly different. There's really no right or wrong with common names, so if you want to call it a spike daisy, or baby rubber tree, or Steve, as DH says all of our potted plants are named, that's fine. If we need to be specific, the botanical name is there. Christine, I did notice it, looks great! Having bad luck with that particular plant around here lately. I was over at my Mom's house before it got cold & we were chatting in the driveway. I noticed her China doll tree looked thirsty so grabbed a watering can and gave it a good dousing. When I looked up my Mom had a weird expression so I asked, "You didn't think it was thirsty?" She said, "I think there's weed killer in that watering can." We just busted out laughing. Yeah, it's a goner now but that still cracks me up when I think about it. I don't approve of the weed killer, but that's Mom's decision to make at her house, with her time. The one at my house seems to be one of only a very few casualties of UNDERwatering. Usually when I kill a plant (without some kind of accident) it's the other way around! Apparently it can't handle drying completely (or something else I don't know was also going on with it.) Oops! Need a couple more, they are so pretty! Auron, these Peps WERE everywhere late last summer! I fell for it because of the pink edges on the leaves. I love any leaf that's not plain green, or IS plain green but interestingly shaped... I am also often enabled by people's pics of plants that look so much better than the battered babies often available at the stores. Without seeing the pics, one might not know the potential of some of those little guys. Especially the succulents that can turn pretty colors - that's the wagon I've fallen off of lately!...See MoreWhere to buy a Baby Rubber Tree and Big Leaf Paper Plant
Comments (11)Tinan..According to that list, most house plants are toxic. lol. I have 4 birds, (free-flying when I'm home, which is most of the time,) 2 dogs, (the younger enjoys nibbling greens,) Iguana, and had a 17-yr-old cat, until he went to feline heaven..he died of old age. Birds are more sensitive to plants/chemicals than cats or dogs, which is one reason I pretty much steer clear of chemicals, including cleaning supplies. Except for a few plants, I have many from the list you posted...No problems, Thank God. Plants I won't keep are Dumbcanes, Oleander, and Poinsettas. Even though they claim Poins are non-toxic, it's a Euphorbia, and Euphorbias seep white sap when branch is snapped. Some people are allergic to the sap. On the other hand, I have almost 100 Euphorbias. Make sense? A newsman, 'think channel 5 news,' ate a Poin leaf to prove the plant harmless after a universery did a study and said the Poin wouldn't hurt a fly..I wonder how he felt 15 mins after the news ended. Was he sitting or leaning over a toilet bowel? lol. Playing devil's advocate. My friend's cat had five kittens, pure white long-hair. A woman adopted all five. 2-3 wks later, she called my friend, told her the kittens died. She claimed, she had Poins in the room they were staying, and discovered they have been nibbling on her Poins. Same friend had a Cockatiel/bird. Hedera Helix/English Ivy is supposed to be fatal, will kill a bird if ingested. Her tiel flew on her Hedera, and ate the entire plant..It was in an 8" pot. She was worried, but her tiel was fine. She had him at least 6 yrs after his fiesta. She adopted him out when she moved, and he's still around. He's around 16-yrs-old. So, if a bird can survive some plants listed as toxic, it makes one wonder if plants are as harmful as they say. If you buy a large plant, there are ways to keep your kitty away. Organic sprays and methods. One problem is cats like using plants with canes, 'like Corn Plant.' They'll kneed the heck out of the trunk/s. Good luck...Toni...See MoreWhat’s going on with my baby rubber tree?
Comments (10)BTW it is a Peperomia obtusifolia and not a real rubber plant. It would more light than its current location. It is possible that after watering the inner pot, it could be sitting in water inside the cache pot. Especially if the pot is not drained well before placing it back in the ceramic pot. I would at least put some pebbles inside the ceramic pot to keep the inner pot raised. Do the leaves perk up after soaking well? If it does it could under-watered....See MoreRubber plant tendrils - good or bad?
Comments (3)you plant has all its leaves facing the bright window .... turn your plant once a month or two .. and it will grow better ...note the tendrils are also seeking the light ... not really a problem. your plant looks great.. just a little trick to make it even better ... you light want to also open the blinds a bit more.. as winter comes along.. due to lower light intensity from the declining sun ... it also seems to be etoliating a bit ... stretching growth toward the light ... to be clear.. your plant looks great.. dont screw it up with too much love ... if its blooming.. its very happy ... imo ... and finally.. since its an heirloom.. propagate a piece.. so you have 2.. just in case some major problem comes along... call it a fail safe ... ken https://duckduckgo.com/?q=Peperomia+propagation&t=ffcm&iax=videos&ia=videos...See MoreMrBlubs
