Found bed but what to believe about the accompanying chest

HOME STYLES BERMUDA King Bed & Chest

I found a bed really want for guest room. Read very positive reviews, checked even reviews of different bed verisions (regular, 4 poster & canopy versions of it in both king & queen) - consistently complimentary comments.
It has one dresser option 5543-41, a low chest.

Only a few sites had reviews of chest despite it being sold on a surprisingly large number of sites because its drop ship, seems everyone carries it.

NINE REVIEWS very negative, harsh from 4 of 5 sites with reviews.

So wayfair has tons of reviews raving.
Only few other sites with few reviews but unanimous that its a bad choice.

Who would you believe?

It's not who I believe .
It's what is the co. going to do to make me whole in the end if I am not satisfied.
Read all the return policies.
Although they all have free shipping ,the return days run from 15-90.
Some charge you for that free shipping should you decide to return and you will also be responsible for the return cost.
Some have a restocking fee .
Some say you have to inspect @ time of delivery (like a driver waits for you to inspect)
Do you have a target near you ?
They seem pretty liberal with the return policies.
It's the cheapest and can be returned to any store (double check everything I say :).
Also most of the complaints seem to be that it was "difficult to assemble"....
How are you with tools ?

Thanks 4boys2, Target also had nightstands of set cheapest and do have one nearby I can return at.

I was disappointed because the reviews were all saying such harsh things, not to get it and then wayfair has so many more reviews with them glowing 4 & 5 stars. The boyfriend can assemble but not a fan, says the odds of pieces lining up well is low and this truly comes completely unassembled. Just don't want to give up on this charming bed.

So we finished our new raised vegetable beds and thought I would update this thread. We ended up having only enough soil from our old beds to fill two of the new raised beds. We also used all of our store of organic matter, which wasn't a lot and compost dug out of a passive compost pile that had been there for over a year which we used to fill the bottom half of those two beds with the soil from the old vegetable beds for the top half. Then we had three beds still to fill! I seriously considered making up a mix using pine bark fines etc., but reading along, what jumped out at me was the percentage of organic matter that is recommended in your native soil. In our old vegetable beds, I added a lot more organic matter, maybe up to 50% and the soil would shrink back and I'd have to keep adding more every year. So, in the end I decided to at least check to see if I could find some 'organic' native soil to purchase. I called around for recommendations and someone did direct me to someone who might have what I needed. And they did. They also added a small percentage of organic compost and had amended the soil with organic amendments, like alfalfa meal and worm castings etc. It sounded like just what I wanted. So we had them deliver it and filled the remaining beds. I will be interested to see how the produce does this year and compare the old soil we had, with the new soil. The new soil is also clay soil, and it doesn't drain as well as my own soil or the soil from the old vegetable beds with all the organic matter, that water just runs through. This new soil, the water puddles on the top for a little bit, but a layer of mulch slows it down enough. I hope to amend the new soil, either with cover crops or mixed lawn clippings and chopped leaves in the fall. So that's the end of that story. Thank you all for all the help and answering so many questions. :-) The last bed filled with new soil.

Found a nice source of Pine Straw for my beds

Down south, pine straw is a main source of mulch. I stopped using it on most of my beds because it breaks down too fast and tracks into the house. I switched to pine bark chips. The only time I use pine straw is on a hill, because it is the only mulch that will not slide down a hill. Of course now I have my own source of pine needles on that hill because we planted our own virginia and loblolly pines. It's not the real long pine straw they sell, but it does the job. If you are not walking on it a lot and it doesn't get full direct sun, the pine straw should last at least a year. I can't see paying shipping for it, but it's worth a try. I also mulch up my fall leaves with a blower vac and have used that for mulch. I don't really do winter protection, but I have used mounds of shredded leaves and pine straw to protect roses and hydrangeas in late frosts. I also tried that coconut mulch that is sold in blocks and has to be hydrated to expand. I like it except for the color.

And to think I left it in the car a couple days and then left the bag sitting on the patio for a couple more days no way I would EVER have expecting those to actually be able to live. And the kewlest thing is the bunnies, squirrels and raccoons didnt even bother eating them.

I'm planting this everywhere around my margins, ie the fence line next to my cedars at the back of the property, in between the short sides of raised beds, back behind some blackberries, and in the mulch circled under a few different trees (oaks & smoke tree). My plan is just to let them establish for a few years, and use them as borders/host plants, then use their prunings in my gardens.

If you love the bed but you are skittish about purchasing the chest, why not just buy the bed? Get a complementary chest with better ratings. It is not necessary that the chest and bed match. In fact many (me included), don't care for matching pieces.

Check the dates on the reviews and give more weight to the newer ones. Manufacturers make changes to the product. That could be part of it.

thats a good point, while most of them are old the most concerning is 3mths old on Target saying after a year, its not stood up either

"When we were putting the dresser together, some parts didn't fit
appropriately, parts were not even, knobs didn't tighten. I have only
had the dresser for a year and there are pieces of wood that have broken
off, screws coming loose. It is not a very sturdy dresser."

bbstx, I think Im going to have to do just that because I can seem to get past buying this bed. Also, was wanting a long dresser anyway so first hope to find one that will go with it.
