Number of house plants and CO2/oxygen levels?

Has anyone ever tried to maximize the number of houseplants in their home in regards to the oxygen/carbon dioxide/moisture levels? I've seen CO2 monitoring devices for sale but I don't want to spend a couple hundred bucks if it won't be useful.

I currently have about 10 large container plants, including a few small trees, and about 20 medium-sized plants in my house. I'd like to add more. I work from home and, from my observation, house plants seem to add a lot of vigor to people's moods and activity levels. But I also suspect that there can be too much of a good thing.
