I would wash the roots really well in a mild bleach solution for about 15 minutes and rince well before repotting in clean new peat-free soil. Fungus gnats love peaty soil, they also love eating roots which have been damaged. I'd advise cutting the roots up into the white and let them heal a day or so before repotting. They will be fine as long as they heal over. Make sure the soil has a lot of substance, like perlite or pumice which will make it airy. You can also grow spiders in water. I had one I converted to a bowl of marbles, the roots attached to the marbles and really took off. When my soil grown spider plants look really bad I cut all the leaves off up to the roots and force dormancy. You do this by cutting all the leaves off, do not cut into the stem. Put it in a cool dark corner and do not water it but just enough to keep the root alive. I would let it stay that way until fall when you can bring it out of dormancy and then gradually water until they get what is needed. You must make sure to force dormancy or else you risk losing them. Usually spiders are heavy drinkers, so a well draining soil is a must for them otherwise you'll be rotting roots right and left. My moonflowers, which are related to morning glories, sent out new branches when the tops snapped off this spring. I've never pruned morning glories, but there's a chance they will do the same. I would carefully straighten the bent stems, and not cut them unless the vines began to wither where they were bent. Sometimes a plant can rebuild a bent stem, but it takes time and must be treated gently, like a broken bone. Either way I don't know if they will bloom, because I don't know how they behave in your climate. The vines will definitely need something to climb, otherwise they will sprawl on the ground and likely get stepped on by imbeciles. Can you put a trellis in that spot? A teepee made from three or four long sticks tied together at the top? Make sure to sink the poles deep into the ground, at least a foot down, so it can't blow over in a strong wind. I've had that happen. I've also had wind and rain rip vines off of poles. You may want to gently tie the vines to whatever poles/supports you use, to prevent this. I hope this helps; blue morning glories are worth saving for their beauty alone, and it sounds like these have a special place in your heart.

I have some Spider Plants. Please look at this photo. This Spider Plant is in Universal Potting Soil. Do you see that the angle between soil and the "Stem" is 0 degrees? Look at this photo: this plant has this root (I made this photo 1,5 mont ago). Look at this plant now (only on steam) Do you see that the angle between soil and the "Stem" is 45 degrees? Compare the angle of inclination here and here angle = 0 degree (universal potting soil), the length of the stem is 41 centimeter) angle = 45 degree (soil= 1 part of coconut and 1 part of universal potting soil.), the length of the stem is 48 centimeter now) 45 degree > 0 degree and I see that plant with 45 degree (1 part of coconut and 1 part of universal potting soil) is a more happy than plant with 0 degree (universal potting soil). So the soil is very important for plants

That's too bad =( Was it the true perennial geranium or the annual that is commonly known as geranium? And yeah, it was cool in the way of "Wow, these babies can grow anywhere" but not so much when it came time to try to pull the roots out of the carpet without hurting them ....... I had a bunch of hanging baskets, but only one spot where I could rig up a hook, so most of them where sitting on the carpet ...... ALL of my trailing plants rooted themselves into the carpet -- My two Wandering Jews, Bolivian Jew, Philodendron 'Brazil', Marble Queen Pothos, Purple Variegated Sweet Potato Vine, and Vinca Vine ...... That was A LOT of tedious work to get them all detached, and there was some damage =( Next year if we're still in this apartment, I'm taking someone's suggestion and getting a portable clothes rack to hang them on!!
