Do I need to report my Spider Plant and Do I water enought
I have a Spider Plant var. Vittatum And I don't know I need to repot it or not. And I have some big roots. I have read that if you have these big roots you need to water your spider plant more often. Spider Plant makes these big roots if sometimes you are a little over-dry it. What do you think aboit it?

2. You can see some a very big roots. Why does my Spider Plant has these big roots (you can see this 1 big thick root and a lot of small white roots, I know that if you have a lot of small white roots it's ok but if you have a lot of big thick root it's bad). Maybe sometime I'm rare water it? I mean Do I need to water my Spider Plant more often?

Yes, you can see the whole plant. But I'm not sure I water the plant correctly. Maybe I'm a little over-dry it. This plant is a top left.

Comments (11)Lamora, waiting a few days before repotting was a good idea. Some authors suggest waiting six-months, but when roots pop out of drainage holes, it's time to repot. If the pot is too large there will be problems. The max is 2" larger than the rootball. Miracle Gro is good soil, but it should be amended with other mediums like Perlite. MG has some Perlite mixed in, but not enough. So, if you decide to reduce pot size, add Perlite with MG. After repotting, 'pot needs drainage holes,' water thoroughly. Place in a bright to sunny spot, and let be. Watering depends on pot size, air moisture, and heat/cool temps. Soil should dry between waterings. Three ways to test soil is, 1. insert your finger or a thin stick deep in soil..if it comes out moist/wet, bottom soil is still wet. Don't water. 2. Lift pot. If it's heavy, soil is damp to wet. Don't water. If light, give it a drink. 3. Water guages. Don't bother with the little cardboard types..they're trash. If you want a decent guage, buy one at a reputable shop. But, inserting a stake/finger is the best, and econical way. No need spending money. Lamora..you didn't fail your plant. Losing plants is part of gardening and a way of learning. All gardeners, in and out, lost plants at times. We learn by our mistakes. Correct what we did wrong with the first plant. So, please don't feel bad. There are two other methods I use and find very helpful. you might or might not be interested. One is misting plants daily. Sprayers are inexpensive. The second is a product called Superthive. Superthrive contains hormones and 50 Vitamins. It does wonders with sick plants, seedlings or healthy plants that need a boost. It is not a fertilizer. In fact, it can be used with fertilizer, but not to be confused as a fertilizer. Neither methods are needed, but as a long-time gardener, I've been using/doing both over 20 yrs. Comments (2)Dirt and sand don't belong in containers and will just make the plant suffer. Use a potting mix with pine bark or sphagnum peat moss as the primary ingredient and repot every year or two. There are longer lasting mixes, but I just don't know what you have available in India and don't want to get started on that right now. Losing fruit from transplanting is pretty normal. If you just pick up the root ball and plunk it into a larger pot and fill around it you likely won't lose fruit, but if you remove the dirt from the roots (you should) and then place it into a decent growing medium you will see some shock and the fruit may well abort. Comments (11)When this got on my spiders I think I was overwatering. Spiders are easy but they are a bit demanding in their need to be watered and then allowed to dry out. Let the plant get dry to the touch before watering. Then water till water comes out the bottom, and wait again to let the soil dry out a bit. The plant will recover better if you remove the ugly brown leaves. You have to water spiders on their own schedule. Waiting to water any houseplant when it rains outside is not going to work out well....See Moredert17

8 years agolast modified: 8 years agoUpdate? This thread inspired me to unpot and separate my spider plants cos they were not doing so good and I couldn't figure out why. Anyway, I put the two crowns which appear to be connected in a 1 gallon container, that's almost a foot tall! And put the single guy in a regular 6 inch pot.
Then there's this guy.

Do you see that the angle between soil and the "Stem" is 0 degrees?
Look at this photo: this plant has this root (I made this photo 1,5 mont ago).
Look at this plant now (only on steam)
Do you see that the angle between soil and the "Stem" is 45 degrees?
Compare the angle of inclination here and here
- angle = 0 degree (universal potting soil), the length of the stem is 41 centimeter)
- angle = 45 degree (soil= 1 part of coconut and 1 part of universal potting soil.), the length of the stem is 48 centimeter now)
45 degree > 0 degree and I see that plant with 45 degree (1 part of coconut and 1 part of universal potting soil) is a more happy than plant with 0 degree (universal potting soil). So the soil is very important for plants
