First -- let me add a BIG vote for placing a TV within the bookshelves -- and using the cabinet bebeath it to hide the usual cables and equipment. Next -- first I really did like the ruby glass in the original photo -- the color worked very well with the artwork. The art was very nice -- both in its vertical placing and its shape and size. You simply needed to spread out the red accents and add lots of books (both in side-by-side AND in stacks) BUT -- if you feel like a change -- after you have installed the TV -- consider replacing the artwork with a dark-framed round mirror. The round shape would break up the strong vertical and horizontal lines. The other thing to consider would be to paint out the brass accent lines on the fireplace doors. Use very, very fine sandpaper, then sand VERY lightly, clean VERY well -- and paint over these lines using barbecue or high heat paint. Removing these strong visual elements will bring the viewer's eye back up to the shelves themselves. So -- I would concentrate on creating the TV area FIRST -- and then work on the shelving (and maybe the round mirror and the fireplace doors).

Can you post some photos of the area you have to work with? As you saw, I ended up with just a 21" wall to work with for my mops and brooms. I repurposed a hook rack that had been in a bathroom for years. I had to tie strings on some of the implements because the holes on them were too small to fit on the hooks. I really really wanted a tall pullout for cleaning supplies but had no space for it in the end. I love that I didn't spend a dime extra (compared to $1400 for those pullouts), and so far it works great. I'll know better after today when my friend who cleans for me has tried to reach the things on it -- she's a little shorter than I. My point is that if you have a small bit of wall space you could put up a hanging rack of some sort. Another idea I had was to use one of the rail systems from IKEA, any one that comes with hooks. I like the Grundtal best, but last time I looked they didn't have them listed online anymore, so I wonder if they are D/C'd or I just missed them. Those kinds of hooks would give you lots of flexibility. The shortest one is 21", I believe.

So this is my favorite abstract that formerly was in my old living room but this has a lot of pinks and pastels in it and it doesn't really go with all the brown in this shade of red I think. I also think that in my efforts to slowly get stuff to go with the red (global style pillows)- I may have gone too far with the other decor to make it work (even if it didn't clash with the brick red). The painting lives in my bedroom now usually- so it has a home at least but it for sure is more my aesthetic for a living room. Someting abour those three tapestries togegee just doesn't feel Right to me...or not finished at least. Any other ideas?

Diana, the living room is the 1st room you enter after passing through a small enclosed entry on our large front porch we also have the deck 9x25 along the side of our house. We live in a New England seaside community so we live and entertain on the 2 areas all summer, so removing that door wouldn’t work. We have a family room off the other end of the deck with a slider. We use the living room for holidays and when company is here I bring in some chairs but there just is no room. I would love to seat 6 comfortably and have a TV tucked in somewhere for the times when grandkids are here or my husband and I don’t want to watch same thing. Other than that, it is the main road through my house! Ugh. Deco, I have attempted to break up this long room by centering love seat opposite fireplace which also allows tv viewing. Put the desk area and storage of grandkids arts and crafts stuff there. Maybe less bulky furniture would free up some space. I did have the tv on a lovely cedar chest but last year put it in that stand in order to confine the chachkis to one space. Lol. Any other spot for TV? We just converted from oil to gas, FP, so plan on converting the fireplace too. Do use it sometimes in winter. Took out the wall between dining and kitchen years ago and it is right next to fam room so not sure how that would work. And you hit the nail on the head with the wall space. Would be happy losing or gaining any furniture if it helps. Only room in my house I hate and it’s the 1st anyone sees. Thanks for replying and all ideas. I really appreciate
