Trying to find info on a fireplace I saw in November articles

Here is the fireplace we want to duplicate but I need info on the grey. vertical wood pieces .If someone could let me know where to find this please? I thought I copied the whole article but can’t find it.

The fireplace surround appears to have been custom made, most likely cast from concrete. The fluting detail was designed to match other fluted wood pieces in the home. It certainly cannot be made from wood as you cannot put wood right up to a fireplace opening like that.

Many years ago in El Cajon Ca. we use to play golf at a course that had been an olive orchard. There were many trees left after putting in the course, but people complained about the olives. I wrote to the U.S. dept of Agriculture and got a whole booklet on how to cure olives. I don't know when I had such a good time and so many people wanting my olives. The golf course even provided me with a golf cart to collect the fruit. Amazed when I found out that the olives are picked green, well they turn a beautiful satin green color. It was all in the curing as to whether we wanted our olives green or black. At our poker parties/any party, olives were expected at our home. After 40 some years I still have that booklet and sometimes the urge to cure olives again.

You have lots of questions, so I'll try to do my best to answer them. Your caterpillars are darker because of cooler temps. From what I've read, it allows them to absorb more light/heat. At this time of the year, diseases and pests are rampant. Make sure the containers you are using are bleached in between groups of caterpillars. You can google Monarch diseases to get information and photos to help you ID your problem. As for blankets over your plants, there is a fabric that you can purchase that gives several degrees of protection. It's white and allows light to penetrate. Also, sheets are great. I use them here to protect tomatoes from frost. I wouldn't use black fabric. As to chlorine residue, I've never worried about it. You could rinse with purchased spring water if you are concerned or rinse in cooled boiled water. Or you can even agitate water in a blender to remove chlorine. Good luck. I know from experience how stressful it can be when you have problems. I've lost my share of caterpillars to black death and tachnid flies. And I've seen and destroyed chrysalides that exhibited OE. I raised and released approximately 600 Monarchs this year. My last group had the most problems and resulted in fewer adults than any of the earlier groups. I attributed it to the fact that I didn't get them all rescued as eggs. 80% or more of the caterpillars I brought in didn't make it. Hope this helps. Sandy

Oh, my, such beautiful homes!! And such inspirations for the rest of us just getting started. Our home will be a modest ranch with finished basement (2600' on each floor). We are in the same stage as you, Billybaroo (love your view!). And we indeed had water problems too. 7" of rain in one day, and hitting a spring (which was a surprise). This is what our excavation looked like. But after about $11,000 in overruns for the waterproofing and drainage fixes, we have this. Well and septic are in, and geothermal was done last week. Would have loved to have pics, but unfortunately we couldn't be there that day. Things are on hold now -- it's deer hunting season here in N. Wisconsin. Siding and windows are ordered. Trying to decide on what roof to get. We'd love to have a Metro steel roof, but it is an upgrade of $20,000, and at our age, not sure that is worth it. Decisions, decisions!

What I like, the light background, the green is perfect because it is my accent color, but brown would work. And the shape--I just WON a backsplash that is this shape. Woo Hoo! I have no idea who could make it near Salt Lake City. This particular job was in a multi-million dollar home here in Brentwood CA. I specialize in custom fireplace screens and doors and have had them made for many fireplaces similar to this over the years. I can probably come up with a resource I can work with to have it made from a cast stone material that is much lighter weight than concrete and have it shipped to you.

Have you already built the fireplace? Is it a prefab fireplace or masonry? If so, post some pictures of the actual fireplace along with the dimensions and position of the opening and I'll be happy to poke around and see what I can come up with. Thank you so-much for the quick response and offering help. Our existing fireplace is an existing prefabricated gas fireplace made by Lenox. I will send a photo so you can see what it looks like now. I just want to get rid of the tumble marbled that we had used and make it looked similiar to the photo of the one I saw. I love the idea of the cast stone and would love any more info you can find .The insert measures 31 & 1/2inches high and 34 wide (if i measure correctly . My husband is a pro construction person so I would have him remeasure to make sure if you find any leads on making it .Thanks again and I so appreciate your help with this.!
