Comments (18)mownie, justalurker, and tomplum, after reading the above posts re: diode - I went out and looked at the leads on the tractor side of the connector, and in the red wire right just before the connector is a 2" length of heat shrink with an irregular shaped bulge beneath it, I presume that to be a diode. Also, near the base of the connector a short length of silver wire crosses over from under the heat shrink to the terminal on the black wire. (At first glance the heat shrink looks just like a repaired area, however I've had the tractor from Day 1, so that rules that out) Hope this helps the discussion, or if nothing else I'm certainly learning something.....You guys are good....See MoreGood bye and thanks follow up
Comments (19)Glad you decided to stay and please keep posting photos. I also have a flamingo story. A couple of years ago I decided to raise money for a charity in Guatemala. I found an idea on the Internet and decided to buy more than 20 pink plastic flamingos and I would go to a house early in the morning and plant them in their front yard. I would leave a message saying "You have been flocked!" Then I would explain why I did it and I would ask for a donation for my charity. It was supposed to ask for ransom in order to take them off their garden but I didn't know if they would understand so I just asked for a donation, explaining I would be back at 5 in the afternoon to take them off. They could also give me a donation and I would put them in the house of their choice. I started with my sister. I went at 5 a.m. to put them there and went home to wait for their call. Well, I waited almost all day and nobody called to say anything. When we finally talked she said, "Oh, yeah, that was funny". She was supposed to pick the next house to be flocked but she didn't want to do it. She eventually helped me by putting them in other houses. I had put a sign explaining the charity so a woman called and asked me to put them at her daughter's home. She loved them and I got a donation. I did it in other houses during the summer but I finally decided to stop because some people got really mad when they found the flamingos. My brother in law said that was the most embarrasing thing that had ever happened to him. That coming from somebody that doesn't seem to be embarrased by anything. It was fun doing it and my husband and children loved it. It was a lot of work to get up early and then go back to pick them up. I still have them and we put them in the back lawn from time to time. My kids love them! Here are some picture:...See MoreA question about oats - follow up to Teresa's substitution thread
Comments (13)Sally- (LOL) I've PURCHASED all the books. Others, with "alphabet soup" lists of degrees behind their names, have blazed this trail before me. I'm just an information freak with an insatiable need-to-know, and I like to study whatever interests me. But as a friend once told me - knowledge isn't knowledge unless you share it. I've also taught foods and nutrition classes and 3/4 c. of granola is three servings of grain and could be as many as 300 calories (or more - depending on ingredients). I follow the old "Basic-4" for menu planning, rather than the too high-in-carbs for us Pyramid, and hubby and I only consume 4 grains a day. So 1/4 c. Nutola (recipe below) and kefir/yogurt does it for us. A friend did a nutritional analysis of my (lower-carb, low-glycemic) recipe "Nutola": 1/4-cup serving -protein: 3 g -fat: 10 g -net carbs (fiber subtracted from total carbs) - 10 -calories per serving: 147 NUTOLA 1/8 c. sesame seeds (I also like to substitute them with kasha - 4 less calories per serving) 1/2 c. walnuts 1/2 c. cashews 1/2 c. pecans 1/2 c. almonds 1/2 c. sunflower seeds 1/2 c. unsweetened coconut (large shred) 2 c. oatmeal Mix all together in a large container. In a glass 1-cup measuring cup, stir together: 3 T. coconut oil, melted (or 1/4 c. cooking oil) 1/4 c. Agave Nectar 2 T. maple syrup Add liquid ingredients to the nut mixture and stir to coat evenly. Place ingredients on a jelly roll pan. Bake in 300F oven for 30-40 minutes, stir with a wooden spoon every 10 minutes, or so. Cool, keep refrigerated in an airtight container. -Grainlady...See MoreFollow Up on Moving Packrat Parents
Comments (10)This past weekend we moved quite a bit to the storage unit. By the way, those storage units hold a lot of stuff! Two full cargo vans didn't even take up 1/3 of the space. A local charity picked up 20 large black bags of donatable items. Even more than that went straight to the curb for trash pick up. Clearing out all of the boxes and bags has made such a huge difference in their sense of accomplishment. They still have a lot of de-cluttering to do but they have made a huge head start. The new house has a huge laundry room off of the kitchen with 2 walls of built in cabinets. The kitchen itself has tons of cabinets too, nearly 4x more cabinet space than they have in the current house. There are stairs in the garage leading to the garage attic which is completely floored for seasonal storage. Imagine an easily accessible, wide open 80x80 space for storage!! Unfortunately there will be a lot of furniture that will not fit into the new house. They've been identifying what will work and what won't - then deciding what to do with the leftover furniture. This is a lot of work, but in the long run I am glad that they are able to sort through everything themselves and we're not having to do it after my parents are gone. I know it would be a lot worse to sort through without their input....See Moresantamiller
