New shower-using only handheld shower on slide bar
Comments (8)Just a word of warning on Moen slider bar fixtures...their chrome fixtures the pieces that hold the bar in place are plastic. I made the huge mistake in building of picking out a book and not putting my eyes and hands on the actual fixtures. Not until they were installed and we were moving in (we built from 1300 miles away) that we discovered they were plastic. There was really nothing we could do at that point without changing all the other fixtures in that bathroom, so we sucked it up and lived with it. That is until about two weeks ago in one of the showers the plastic on the bottom failed and the bar fell out of the sleeve! I called Moen and even though it's been over 2 years since purchase they sent a complete replacement. They have completely redesigned the shower bar and while the pieces are still plastic the design is much better and much more sturdy. They have great customer service, their phone system is great. If a CS rep is unavailable you record your number and they give you a time frame in which they will call you back. It's so much better than being on hold forever. Probably way more info than you wanted, but wanted you to be aware....See MoreHandheld ONLY or Fixed Shower Head too?
Comments (6)I don't think you need a fixed shower head. In our shower we are planning a fixed and handheld because it is large enough for 2 people to shower at one time. So, having 2 heads would be handy. It is were only really large enough one person, one would be enough and it wouldn't have to be fixed. The handheld allows for easier shower wall cleaning too....See MoreShower with only handheld on sliding poll
Comments (4)I would select a good quality handheld shower on a bar, just like jrueter. One that is totally adjustable. I certainly wouldn't call it chintzy. (It was suggested by a designer for a $60K+ remodel for our small master bathroom. Grohe comes in all the finishes, and styles, as do others. See them at local plumbing shops, and hold them in your hands to decide which one is best for you. Usually you can interchange the various parts within a manufacturer. I believe the threads on the heads will go with just about any make of hose. Not sure about that. Unless you can view both the sink an the tub at once you don't need to worry about having all the finishes match. We tend to get obsessed about these things when we remodel, and in the larger scheme of things, it really doesn't matter. What you would probably notice is traditional v.s.contemporary. So I suppose style would be more noticeable rather than finishes...but not going from ORB to Chrome would look weird. I wanted everything SQUARE in my bathroom, and I was able to find different mfgrs. who did chrome with square designs in just about everything from shower fixtures to towel bars. Chrome always looks the same. Brushed nickel doesn't as I learned in my kitchen...but one would only notice looking closely and the items would have to be side by side. So don't worry about that. Get what YOU like to look at. Mount that bar up high enough, ( they do come indifferent lengths) The boys really only care if it works, not how it looks. -Babka...See MoreIs a handheld shower on a bar enough in the kids' bathroom?
Comments (17)I don't agree with what Chispa's said. We had a Grohe fixed and a Grohe handheld in the same shower. They were used concurrently nearly every morning for 26 years and neither had stronger flow than the other. If you have the same size supply pipe, the pressure should be the same all else being equal. We had a 1/2" line to the fixed shower and a 3/4" inch line for the handheld and body sprays (no diverter). All could be on at the same time with excellent (and at least equal) pressure. The shower heads on both showers were the same....See MoreErrant_gw
