Nice example of CA Wine Country home
Comments (29)I'm sorry about the apples. Since we left California 17 years ago now, I didn't realize even avocados are problematic. Given...everything, even here in the east I've given up most intensive hobby gardening in favor of landscaping, with new structural plants, brought in as necessary, chosen for resilience as conditions change. Color really does look different in different climates. I remember being stopped in my tracks at a SoCal beach house by the stunning beauty of vibrant purple morning glories with another, crayon-orange-flowered vine together on a white fence. Not garish--exquisite! In those days I had a 12-month-a-year flower garden in bloom at my home only 30 miles inland, but those same flowers never looked that vibrant in my garden, and that combination could never have glowed so wonderfully there. That's okay. Like Ingrid's, less than fully saturated colors were very lovely instead....See MoreParade Day, new striped rose at High Country Roses for $16.95/liner.
Comments (2)Lilyfinch, I'm tempted to. If I do, there is no rose bed spot available for it, so it will have to be container grown for a while, which may be a good idea. I will then be able to study it further to determine its strengths and weaknesses for a couple years. As a liner size it will take a couple years for it to get large enough to get a reasonable evaluation. What drew my interest to Parade Day are its fragrance, and the possibility it is only lightly, subtly striped, and with mostly light pink stripes as the photo shows, hopefully not also having bold, white striped blooms as well. I do not like most striped roses in the garden, especially those with dramatic striping. They, in full sun, look diseased to me (mildewed, bleached, or hit with weed killer). In a vase, under different light, they look great. I grow roses mostly for their garden beauty, not for arrangements. To my eyes, subtly, very mildly striped roses are lovely in the garden as well as in a vase. Moses...See MoreCoffee Country rose (own root from Antique Rose Emporium)
Comments (13)It is like showing me two dresses and ask me which I like ? I like both and since I can't pick one most likely I will get both. Look at both the roses.. different styles, different cut ( bloom) , different colour and most likely different scent. SoFl, I feel as if I am getting into the same boat. I have room but it is matter of time that I will door be out of space. My husband is already asking me. 40 is not enough..Geezs, Jin. I want French roses, possibly a few Islanders, Antique ( mostly ) and also DA ( mostly ). Any perfumes made of roses like Nahema is on my want list. Then , I want big blooms which are big roses. I have a long , long lists lastly climbing roses which I also have a list. Trying to cut half my list by is not working :( Cori Ann, you are killing me too....your roses are beautiful. Comments (8)Joey, If there are more new roses for 2021 coming, and in the numbers are proportionate to the roses beginning with the letter "S", a much used letter, High Country Roses will be off the charts with new offerings. I suspect the "S" phenomenon is a one in a million chance coincidence. Moses...See Moresara_ann-z6bok
