found roses at High Country Roses
Comments (3)I bought both these from High Country years ago. Hattie was given to a friend in a slightly warmer zone - 5, not 4, where she did much better. I was a bit shocked by how hot pink she was in person - not what I had in mind at all, LOL. Champagne Arches (aka Nancy Parker) is a monster rose here in zone 4! Completely cane hardy, I have it growing over an arch and the canes reach about 10'. It does require some taming, however, as it puts out a LOT of new canes - and it will sucker several feet away. It's a thorny devil, but when it blooms, it just covers itself with those peachy double blossoms. Basically once blooming, in an odd year I may have a small handful of flowers late in the season....See MoreParade Day, new striped rose at High Country Roses for $16.95/liner.
Comments (2)Lilyfinch, I'm tempted to. If I do, there is no rose bed spot available for it, so it will have to be container grown for a while, which may be a good idea. I will then be able to study it further to determine its strengths and weaknesses for a couple years. As a liner size it will take a couple years for it to get large enough to get a reasonable evaluation. What drew my interest to Parade Day are its fragrance, and the possibility it is only lightly, subtly striped, and with mostly light pink stripes as the photo shows, hopefully not also having bold, white striped blooms as well. I do not like most striped roses in the garden, especially those with dramatic striping. They, in full sun, look diseased to me (mildewed, bleached, or hit with weed killer). In a vase, under different light, they look great. I grow roses mostly for their garden beauty, not for arrangements. To my eyes, subtly, very mildly striped roses are lovely in the garden as well as in a vase. Moses...See MoreNew Roses and Rumors of New Roses (for 2021)
Comments (18)I've got 2 Gabriels and 1 Eustacia... I wish I had 6... I used to have 3 Gabriels but my dog killed one and he's trying to get shot of Eustacia too... digs up half my garden in his old age.. If you don't like red, Gabriel is quite a striking red from a distance, deep pink close up, lilac edges... turns pink in heat... very beautiful rose...old rose scent.. Eustacia is Evelyn Mark II, no wonder they don't do Evelyn here no more, no royalties... I'm convinced similar Tamora line of breeding... Eustacia has the better foliage.. ... I wonder if Evelyn will get the boot in U>S. if Eustacia takes off.. ...best of luck with these two... You might be interested to know, Austins have developed a new breeding line of striped roses, bit like the painter's series, or Ferdinand Picard type... they are very pleased with what they have and hope one comes to market in a few years.... they also have some for florist roses... ...bit late to the party on that one, if you ask me.......See MoreHi, Rose Friends, What 2021/2022 Roses Did You Order?
