Oh my heavens!!!! Eustacia Vye is glorious!!! Swoon!!! Of course, Gabriel Oak is too...but very few roses can compete with that EV!!!

I haven't seen a post from Marlorena in ages, but I'm not on top of things on the forum. Have any of you read recent posts from her? I've seen some other pics of Gabriel Oak, and believe me, Gabe can compete with EV. That one is my first choice for next year, though where I'd put him, I don't know. I love EV, too, of course. Love how they look. According to the reviews from The Right roses they are both excellent. I would love to try them.

I just read the review of Gabriel Oak on the Right Roses (thanks Dianela!), and the color is similar to James L. Austin (which is gorgeous), but super fragrant! That makes me happy. I hope they come to the USA! Where I will put it though, is another matter...

Deborah I feel the same way. I actually planted James last year and even tho I really like it so far I keep wondering if I should have saved the spot for Gabriel Oak. It is supposed to be better in every way. My husband has complained I keep making it more difficult for him to mow of grass, because I keep expanding my beds and there is barely space for him to drive around. With all these beautiful roses I am afraid he won’t have much left to cut soon :)

I’ll trim trees to make space for those two.

So good to see you posting here, Marlorena. Now that you mention it Eustacia Vye does have some similarities with Evelyn. Is the flower about the same size as Evelyn? In what way do you feel Eustacia is superior to Evelyn? I notice on HMF you say it's a very good rose in the heat. Is the color a little deeper than Evelyn?

How is your garden doing? I'm so hoping that you'll be posting with your spring flush here soon.

Well, for us Eustacia is a healthier type it seems to me... Evelyn got black spot issues which I don't see too much on EV... of course I don't know how these do in a warm climate... Evelyn may still be best for that.. I don't quite see the quartered bloom form in EV that you sometimes see in Evelyn...

Hope talk again soon.. my garden is looking sparse this year as I don't go out and I usually top up with all sorts... most stuff is sold out online too.. got bare earth everywhere...

I loved the Ferdinand Picard in their gardens there (I visited in June 2018), but didn't see any of their own striped roses...so they must be in test gardens somewhere else? And do they ever publish the "parents" of their roses, or is that a secret? I'd love to look at some genealogies!

I have been out 3x in the last few days just dead-heading. I hate cutting off the spent blooms, as I want them to last forever! But I know I have to make way for a next flush. We've had crazy hot winds last 3 days and expected for 2 more days. It's really hard on the roses -- my Poet's Wife can't take the winds. But Carding Mill seems unfazed...

..the striped roses are new in their breeding sheds this year, just little seedlings ... from what I gather it will be several years before any get released... something for the future...

No they don't release breeding info these days... all very secretive..

Marlorena - striped Austin roses?? I'm excited to see them!!! Better late than never. :)

And, yeah, I find that annoying that they don't share the parentage of their roses. It's so much more interesting to know.
