Swapping spray heads for rotary nozzles - what to do for small areas?

In Southern California and finally decided to fold to peer pressure and replace all 131 of my spray popups with the new Rain Bird or Toro rotary nozzles. Although I water 3000 sqft, a LOT of it is small areas that need a 10' or 6' or even 3' throws. All the rotary's I see are a minimum of 13' radius. I've tried using the cheap Chinese made mini sprayers but they're very unreliable. Is there anything I can use for a shorter throw in these small areas compatible with my new rotary system?

Toro 570Z MPR nozzles have options for 5', 8', and 10' throw. For three feet you could use a microspray for about 4'-6'. These are all fixed spray though, not rotary. Do you need all rotary??

Yeah, I watch my spray nozzles literally go up into vapor on dry or windy days, and with our drought, penalties are about to launch so I decided to try rotary. Plus I think I'll get a better coverage pattern with them. I DID get a reply directly from Toro that looks very promising though:
"The Precision Rotating Nozzle PRN can be used with a device called little valve. This allows down to 6 feet if you have good working pressure >45 psi. http://www.valvettesystems.com/";.

Think I'll give it a try!

Hi Slotshot, Yes there is. There are specific one that spray a rectangle pattern with the head in the middle or on the sides. Look at the pattern shapes on the store display or containers. All the major brands carry them. The local nurseries, irrigation stores or big box stores have them. Match the brand of your sprinkler head body and all you have to do is unscrew the old head and screw on the new one. Replace the little filter part under the head, a new head will come with a new filter. Adjust the spray distance by adjusting the center little screw. Clockwise is less. That is about it. Gl Aloha.

paigect - I don't know what type the iris are as I got them off craiglist. I don't think they're siberean judging by images searches though. I'll definitely pack up some of the phlox for you. note to ishareflowers (well and anyone else who wants iris), my iris bloomed in spades this week but it came out yellow! So maybe the few paltry blooms I got last year were horribly washed out? I'll still bring some in case you want them but I wanted to give you a heads up

Vaporvac, I would recommend every one I've had experience with for being disease free and withstanding neglect. Some of them are outside the garden area, and I just don't get to them very often. I've never seen black spot or powdery mildew on any of them. Wm. Baffin - big guy - never gets any care except to be whacked on unmercifully by my husband when canes get in the way of the mower. They're in almost total shade and have a great early flush, then intermittent blooms throughout the season. In my opinion, best for great color at a distance because the individual blooms are sweet and pretty, but not extraordinary or breathtaking. John Davis and John Cabot are reliable for color all season. They're both giants. The Mordens - Blush, Centennial and Sunrise are excellent bloomers and fit into a garden of shrub roses of normal size, Centennial being the tallest. Bill Reid, a bright yellow that blooms constantly. Also, a good rose bed size. Martin Frobisher, rugosa, has the most delicate looking blooms, but is a strong, healthy bush. So far, it's not a giant. They never need winter protection and seem to do fine whether pruned or not. Winnipeg Parks and Campfire are two I would like to add. Mine are all own root from Northland, and have never been sprayed.

There is another brand that specializes in rotary spray nozzles, MP Rotator. to my knowledge they were the pioneers. while I love the precision of the Toro Rotoray nozzles (they seem to stop and start exactly where you set them) they lack a lot of variation in throw, and as of yet don't carry "side strip" or "end strip" type models that MP Rotator does. these sizes are great for boulevards and throw in a rectangle pattern 5 ft forward and 15 ft to either side, or 5 ft forward and 15 ft to just one side, respectively. MP also has 3 sizes based on radius, 1000 being the smallest at 8 - 15 ft, 2000s and 3000s that go up to 30ft.

-edit- they also have matched percipitation rates, meaning you can mix and match all sizes and shapes on the same zone :) -

also: good for you on the water conservation efforts! stream sprays are definitely better than traditional sprays for that.
