help with tv placement in living room
Comments (6)What a lovely room-- I can see why you'd want to spend more time there! Are you open to rearranging furniture? I'd float the sofa in front of window with the chair opposite.. then put the tv (assuming it's a large one) on the wall behind where the sofa is currently. I have my tv over the fireplace now and I hate it.. it's the best place for it but it completely sucks the charm out of the fireplace. And yes--it's too high. If you are thinking a smaller tv.. then you could probably keep your furniture arrangement and look for a small cabinet-- perhaps on rollers-- that would disguise the tv and allow it to be moved as needed. The shelves are a great spot for a smaller tv-- but I fear they are too far from the seating for comfortable viewing....See MoreTV placement vs Fireplace vs Windows in living room with view
Comments (5)Thank you. Honestly, we are avid TV watchers but aren't willing to sacrifice the view either. I can't really include pics as it is not torn out enough yet to see how it lays out. The ceiling is vaulted so the TV from the ceiling might not be best and would be down pretty much permanently. You use a small break for the TV. I considered putting a smallish fireplace on the window wall with a TV above but worried that blocking off the view would be a mistake i would regret. Also, If i put the TV on the window wall in any sort of built in manner, that would really limit changing furniture arrangement in the future. I really don't want to make a mistake!!...See MoreNeed living room/tv placement help
Comments (6)Thanks to both of you! I don't have access to a floorplan, unfortunately. Also unfortunately, I cannot do any major work at the moment, so the ugly mantel stays (and I did not even notice until now that it doesn't match the fireplace!) I would love to put up some artwork, plants, etc in this room as well, when the big pieces are settled. Already thinking about drapes but very little clue where to start - this side of the house faces the street so I really want to get some noise dampening ones, although they would have to fit onto pinch pleat hooks. What are your opinions on the wall sconces? I didn't even think about those! No plans to paint. It's just me doing the whole thing so for now I'm trying to keep it as simple as possible....See MoreOpen Concept Great Room TV and Furniture Placement...Help!!!
Comments (5)Congratulations on the new home! When deciding on a room arrangement, consider both the space and how you live. Unless you want reclining chairs, sofa facing the fireplace, then the fireplace is too high for a tv. So, then it should go on the other wall. What type of furniture? The most flexible type is a sofa and 2 chairs. Why? -can be rearranged in several ways -can be used to lie down on -guests prefer their own seats, so you have a total of 4 seats if no one uses the middle of the sofa Maybe you rarely have guests. Fine......then is there is reason you want a sectional with a chaise? You may have a good reason. It will work....just make sure there is a reason you want it. A chaise on the end of a sofa makes for an awkward furniture arrangement. If you are talking about a sectional with a chaise........that gets into what I call a "trap" (hard to get in and out of and forget a coffee table). So, get what works for you....See Moreeinajr
