Roses......help Morph!

I realize this is the lawn forum but I also know Morp is very knowledgable about everything that comes out of the ground.

I planted Don Juan climbing roses last spring. They grew about 4' tall and had 3-4 roses in first year. Hopefully I do better this year.

Last fall I tied them back to trellis, did not cut back just mulched them with pine needles and compost.

Now that spring is here what should I do? The leaves are brittle n dead looking. Should I just leave it be or prune some n remove old leaves?
