Can you help me make an idea board?

After looking more realistically at our kitchen renovation project, we've decided to keep the slate tile floors that are already in place. (We'd originally planned on replacing them with oak to match the rest of the house.) This is the floor:

We're also keeping one set of upper inset cabinets that are original to the house. We're having custom cabinets made to match for the lowers (and panelling the DW and fridge).

What color of painted cabinets would you choose? The kitchen can feel dark, so I'd like to keep the cabinet color light but am open to any ideas. I'd also love ideas for countertops and backsplash. Our home is a bungalow that was built in 1927, so I'm hoping to keep it period appropriate.

It's a galley/corridor kitchen about 110" x 100" (tiny, I know!). Budget is flexible since it's so small. I'm thinking about maybe off-white cabinets and soapstone counters?

Any recommendations for colors, specific tile, countertops, etc? Thanks for any and all help!
