Brigadoon or St. Patrick, better bloomer?
Comments (4)Hello again, I mentioned PK because it has bloomed so well for me - 250-300 blooms per three week flush, but the blooms don't last very long. On the other hand, Brigadoon (and Black Bacarra) blooms can last a week or more, depending on wind, heavy rain, and heat. In the May photos, the Brigadoons had a few thrip, but were heavily infested with aphids, but it didn't keep them from being traffic stoppers. About root stock: the two Brigadoons closest to the house were J&P own-root boxed roses from Lowe's (I can hear the groans), bedded in Feb 2004. The other two were bare-root grafted Weeks roses we planted in May 2006. The local nursery usually pots roses supplied to them in January for sale in April-May. They could have come from Calif. but probably from Tyler, TX. I don't know what the rootstock is, but there was one stem from below the graft this last Spring. Before I cut it out, it produced a bright red velvety bloom with yellow stamens and less than a dozen petals. Hope this helps in your decision, Gary...See MoreFinished my St Patrick decorating

I personally suspect he secretly likes the attention of being including in decorating. LOL Jenn...what do you mean poor, poor cat. How about poor, poor owner of the Brat Cat. He discovered my little pot of real clover in the bay window and proceeded to snack on it till it looks very pathetic now. I have a feeling it won't last another day, unless he got bored. Prosp, don't apologize for not knowing much about St Patrick. You are teaching so much about your customs and country and hopefully learning things here about ours. I read this on the Internet.... Comments (11)Thank you every one for your wonderful comments. When my DD suggested I do a St. Patrick's Day Table I didn't think I had enough things to do one. But after shopping around the house I just had to buy a few accessories. Jeanne and Jane, I had to keep King Brian happy, who knows what mischief he would have caused if he didn't get his way LOL!! Candy, I apologize for not taking the time to describe the things on the mantel. It is a St. Brigid's Cross that I mounted and framed. The other piece is actually a book "So You Think You're Irish" written by Margaret Kelleher. The clay pipe is from my DS's collection. the Celtic Cross and Harp were gifted to my DH. I believe the Shillelagh is the one he brought back from Ireland. Luvs, Punk and Jane, That little boot came with a fresh flower arrangement in it years ago. I keep it on a shelf in my kitchen. Elmaly, I didn't know anyone remembered my "Thirteen Witches" I hope they and the Leprechaun King will get along. Karen, I'm glad you looked at my pictures more than once. I do that as well. Comments (15)Thank you for the feedback—I wish everyone could come! Yes, oxalis BBstx, and the local supermarkets have them as well as nurseries and store like Walmart. I babysat over the weekend for our grands and while in their town visited a target store to look for anything St Patrick related for the centerpiece. They had NOTHING, and when I asked about it was told that all had been sold more than a month ago! This brought home the fact that I have only a scant two weeks to prepare. 😳 I’m glad there is general approval of the menu, but have a question: I was thinking i would garnish each plate with mint and three slices of kiwi, which is basically ”the” fruit. Is that enough of a fruit presence or would you have melon wedges as well? I’d probably do honeydew for the color (instead of my original plan for cantalope) or I could serve smaller honeydew chunks and blueberries together— which woukd obviate the need for a sharp knife....See Morerob333 (zone 7b)
