Do you have a traditional low-key/stay-in New Years Eve tradition
Comments (18)For over 20 years we have been having a nice little party. Started the first year we were married, and none of our friends were. All of us right out of school and no money to go out to the big scene. We used our silver wedding dishes and leftover napkins from the reception. Had a really fun time. Then in our first house we would have the babies asleep, and people could bring their kids and playpens. Low key fun with friends. Onto the house we raised our kids in. Everyone could bring their kids to the party, so no one had to pay for a babysitter. Somehow the kids all played together famously, and managed to stay up past midnight and be a delight. Everyone brought an appetizer to share, so it was a casual party and not much work since the house was already deep cleaned from the holidays. This is the first year in our new (empty nest) house. Our kids are in college, and they are still coming to the party, except now they are all old enough to take part fully. When we told our friends we were moving, usually the first thing they wanted to know was if we still planned to have our new years eve party. It has become a really nice tradition. I think that us and all of our friends like to get together, not spend any money, and not shout over a loud bar scene. It is really a nice time. Just wanted to put this out there in case anyone else might want to start a nice little tradition like this too....See MoreSpouse older than you?
Comments (48)Yes, Chisue, my hub is also anxious. He worries about money all the time. Dear friends and relatives are dying, we've each had a recent bout with cancer, the kids are not all "launched" yet. Yesterday we attended a one-year anniversary of the death of the 34 yo son of good friends. Today is my hub's 70th b'day, and despite all the well-wishes of the day's callers, he seems to be in the dumps. I don't believe he had a mid-life crisis to speak of, so maybe there is such a thing as a delayed one. I sure hope he and Mr. Chisue get over it. I'm used to having a calm, even-tempered poet for a husband, not a nervous wreck....See MoreDo You Have More Than One?
Comments (30)I have the typical top freezer unit in the kitchen and a dorm sized unit in the garage. Used to use the small one for beverages when I worked in the garage a lot and for the extra room. Stopped using it when I wanted to cut electric use. It doesn't use that much but it really wasn't needed. Then after the surgeries started a few years ago I plugged it back in since I needed some specialty foods during recovery and since mobility has been so limited in the last years, it's just more convenient to put some of the things in the little one when I bring them home and bring in other groceries and stuff when I can. I'll unplug it soon since winter is approaching and I have the "walk in cooler/freezer" (aka garage) available. Grainlady, I bought a Kill-A-Watt a couple years ago but never got around to trying it out. Been meaning to then forget about it! Gotta get that thing out and check some things out. I'm curious about some things....See MoreSubway tile shower: niche 3/8" higher than 2nd niche. Noticeable?
Comments (9)I think this is what you are saying. Your niches are not like the original image but they are lined up in the middle of a row of tiles. But within that row, one niche is 3/8" higher than the other, like this: It would bug the heck out of me that they didn't start on a full tile in the first place, but that's usually how it ends up most of the time, like A or B. On top of that there is the3/8" height difference. I would have to compensate for this at the very least but using grout that matched the tile so I wasn't visually measuring that all the time. However, I was trained to differentiate between 0.5 of a mm for my job at one point, so 3/8" is huge to me visually. Not so with many people. Why do you know about it? Did you notice it yourself? If you did I think you have to have him change it. But if not, use grout that minimizes it....See MoreLE
