Garage sizes?
Comments (25)Ours is currently 24' x 24' and while it was tight,, we had very little trouble back when DH drove a pick-up with an extended cab and I had a Tahoe. During that time we also stored 4-5 kayaks with assorted gear, plus a couple of shelving units tools etc. and two large trash cans. Wasn't ideal but it worked. Now with smaller cars --two mid sized SUVs -- we have loads of room -- even still with a couple of kayaks, a raft frame, 2 bikes etc. and the rest. But it stays relatively well organized with lots of hooks and hangers. In our new build our garage will be approx 25' wide x 24' deep that's just the way it worked out,. It's a duplex and on DD and SIL's side, we had the ability to make one side of their 24' wide garage 28' deep for his crew cab pick-up....See MoreFound our dream house, not ready to buy it!
Comments (24)So glad you don't want me to disappear:) Over in gardening I'm useless but I get fantastic advice! spikeysmom- I think one of the three agents people interview should always be from an independent company. I was at a dinner party tonight and there were several other agents and an appraiser and I was talking about this forum- they weren't surprised about how people feel toward agents and neither am I. I work with agents everyday and some are just horrible! Here are some of my favorites- just for a laugh- although maybe it will make you dislike agents more???..no it will make you laugh... I once had an older gentleman agent say to me--"Honey, have your husband call me back because I don't do business with women!" (DH drove over and had a little talk with him) A new agent representing a seller asked me to fax my offer to the office of her "real" job because she never "gets a chance" to go to her real estate office. (Is real estate a "pretend" job? Please don't hire agents with other jobs. Real estate sales is a lifestyle choice not a hobby.) I go to my seller's building inspections but I stay outside so buyers and their agents can speak openly. The buyer's agent came out and told me the buyers wanted to ask for the furnace to be updated but would buy the house either way. She was wondering how she should write that up for them. (Uh-yeah- I'm not the right person to talk to about that.. buyer did ask...I told seller to say no.. we did close..) An agent once told us right before we walked into the closing- he forgot to tell his buyers about the oil proration and asked if we would mind splitting it with him so he didn't have to spring it on them. (DH answered- Your mistake- your checkbook!). (I'll split lots of things to make a deal work but not carelessness. DH and I joke that we own washers and dryers all over the city because that always seems to be the thing people fight about...) The funniest one to me was an agent who had worked out with her seller who was out of town for three weeks that she would go let the dog out of the house during showings because he barked and the dog walker was not always available. I tried to set up a showing a couple of times and finally she confessed to me that she was afraid of dogs! She decided not to let the house be shown until the owner came back! I love dogs and offered to let it out which I did- she called me a couple of days later to ask me if I would let it out for another showing because that agent was afraid of dogs too......See MoreThings not to overlook when building your dream home.
Comments (40)cpartist Nhb we are talking about aisle clearances in case of the need for a walker or wheelchair. What works minimally doesn’t always translate for ADA Yes, I realize this. Just sharing my experience with our adult daughter getting around, in both a wheelchair and a walker, in our kitchen that a had 42" clearance. Of course, more is great! But if you cannot manage more distance between isles, 42" works. :) If one has a large island, cutting off 3" on either side is not going to make that much of a difference. I may do that in our build. The island will be the last thing to be built. malabacat - I agree whole heartily! My husband and I were both in this accident with our daughter (38). After the accident, I could barely move getting up and down, but I could walk on flat surfaces. Our daughter had to live with us because her home, at that time, had steps in and out. Plus a laundry in the basement. Her husband was working in another town. Our house had steps to get inside (we borrowed a ramp), but we had 3 ground level bedrooms, bathrooms, and the laundry room! Now, we have both moved to rentals. Us building a home. Our daughter and husband relocated. Their home has no bedroom, and only a half bath, on the main floor. She has to have more surgery on her hip. Guess what!!! She will have to come live with us during her recovery phrase! Our new home will have two bedrooms and 2 full bathrooms on the main floor. All with 3/0 doorways. Laundry is located near our bedroom....See MoreDreams, homes, and dream homes
Comments (30)I remember wanting to be an architect or ID when I was young, and took drafting as well! I remember drawing up floor plans and sketching out elevations. And had an AD subscription. So many similar stories here... We are always looking at new houses, both locally and well as in other locations in the US and overseas. I think my ideal US home is currently a Spanish Mission one story with a central courtyard and ideally, a casita. We rarely see them come on the market as they are coveted around here. I'm always finding my spouse having left web pages open to housing sites and videos. Overseas, I love looking at the Christie's, Sotheby's and Coldwell Banker International sites, as well as more practical ones. This French firm curates unusual properties and this Italian Christie's affiliate produces aspirational Youtuber video tours of listings. HHI actually does solicit applicants on the expat FB groups I belong, as did my property consultant. You do it after you've purchased or rented. However, I do think many people with something to promote do participate (it takes like 4 or 5 days to film)....See Moresimsimsim
