Foyer before and after pics....still seeking advice :-)
Comments (87)Les, You know I actually did that for my mom yesterday, showed her my very first "before" picture and then the one I just posted and I agree. I took a deep breath and told myself not to sweat the small stuff all at once cause it's SO much better now. I can relax now and find the perfect lamp, cushion, plates, etc. but in the meantime I'm very very pleased with the difference you all have helped me make in there. It's not a place I avoid looking at when I walk through now. I walk in and pause and smile. magothrivergirl...Thanks so much for the link! The ivory and ebony one are both pretty, better than any I've seen so far and I've got it bookmarked as I start my search. I appreciate the tip and I want to look some more but those are great. Thank you again. carriem25...Anybody here is qualified to add their opinion and I appreciate ALL comments. Sometimes when somebody doesn't like something it will at least make me take a second look at that element and make sure I'm not overlooking something. Sometimes I focus on one thing and never see something else obvious. And sometimes things don't translate well in pictures so I have to walk in there to actually see in person how it looks. I honestly think when I'm in the foyer the space is large enough that the bells don't look that busy. The entire expanse of wall going up the stairs is blank so it still has an open feel in the space. I think for now I'm going to leave the bells grouped together but I do appreciate you making me take a second look at that. Thanks for the compliment on the chest and lamp too :-)...See MoreIs Gardenweb dying after Houzz takeover?
Comments (221)Haven't read ALL the comments, but my two cents is I miss the small "Let's have morning coffee together" feeling of the old format. I knew who was going to be on when, all the DIYers that HOUZZ has seemed to run off. I joined in 2008, did a DIY for Four years and now my beautiful (to me) kitchen I feel intimidated to post any pictures. Kind of feel like expectations are 180% higher! And...is there ANY way to search just in Kitchens? I'm trying to find under cabinet lighting and the only search I can find is "search all gardenweb" and I get random results! From gardening, at al, and I just want kitchens. Anyone know how to filter that?...See MoreWhere to complain about Houzz recent change to GardenWeb Forum
Comments (11)I don't think complaining is going to affect their decision...or might produce an even more obnoxious way to try to make $$ off a free to use site. I think they probably spend huge $$ on creating something that won't be affected by adblockers, but perhaps the adblockers will catch up and make it possible to block. As annoying as it is if you have to LOOK at it, I find it completely easy to just scroll past. If it's in my view while reading something, I just enlarge the screen or scroll to a place so it isn't visible. I think some people who say they don't see it, might just have not noticed it, with all the visual clutter on Houzz sites. If users don't click on the ads, they will be removed as not effective, but the next "plot" for creating advertising $$ might be even more obnoxious....See MoreHelp me get out of the Houzz forums labyrinth!!
Comments (116)Can I just whine a little more? One big difference I've noticed is that posters who are 'from Houzz' use picture examples from Houzz and suggestions based on things that are IMO ridiculously $$$ and are often way beyond the scope of what the poster was asking about - and sometimes it's a vendor for said product or service making that suggestion which really chafes me. Not that that never happened with GW before the forums were mixed but there was and still is, I think, a different mindset and a broader perspective. When we search things out for each other we aren't using Houzz as the be all and end all because we 'grew up' searching the wide web, feel no loyalty to any particular source and enjoy the hunt. And part of our mission if I can call it that, has always been to help educate each other about WHY not just how - and we've been extremely lucky to have had incredible members over the years who share their vast knowledge. Houzz' photo stock does not cater to the average homeowner. Houzz is first and foremost a venue for professionals to sell their services and wares, not a discussion forum for Susie/Sam gardener to come and ask about hostas or Janie/Jonny homeowner to ask about the right lamp for the nightstand. We are an off shoot of that, nothing more. the money gets poured into keeping the advertisers happy not the forums. End of rant....See MoreUser
