QOTD What other forums on the Garden Web?
Comments (21)I started out on the Florida Gardening Forum, then found this one, and I spend the most time on these two. I have visited others out of curiosity: Pets, Sewing, Natives, Garden Junk, Recipes, Cookware, and some others. I think all of them are of value, but Quilting on the whole has the most supportive people who are willing to welcome newbies and share their knowledge and at the same time are comfortable in asking for advice without feeling intimidated. I posted a question once on one forum about a certain type of conifer that I had just bought and was derided for only buying the common stuff found at the big box stores so I knew right away they weren't very welcoming of non-experts' participation. So it seems that there are some forums that only encourage expert participation which is fine if you're searching for an answer to a question but not too friendly for us unwashed people who don't know everything about everything! I'm with Rosa, life is too short for grumps and trolls....See MoreForum changes due to Houzz
Comments (36)I just checked one of my old posts that had been truncated that I did not contact Houzz about and I can't imagine anyone else contacting them about. It has been fixed! They also restored the photo hyperlinks to view the pictures larger for the existing externally hosted photos. Plus they removed the crazy fixed width attribute they had added to the image tags that forced all smaller pictures to stretch to 500 pixels wide. So that is three really big improvements recently. Not sure why they don't mention all the fixes in their "updates" section. I thought I would check the butterfly FAQ to see if they were fixed, but many still seem cut and have the "..." at the end. That normally indicates that there is content that doesn't fit (at least on this site as far as I can tell). But, none of my posts that were truncated ever had the "...", so that may be a separate issue? It is good to know they are still working on things, even if they aren't saying it :) I was a little worried because on another thread a while ago one of the admins had said that the truncated posts should be fixed, but to let them know if we found more. I thought, oh no....if they are actually fixed then we shouldn't be finding more. I checked mine at that time and it wasn't fixed, but I wanted to just wait and see if and when it was fixed. Now it is. So they are still working on it I guess....See MoreWhat Happened to Garden Web Forum Archives, Photos, clipped articles?
Comments (35)I agree, but Houzz would have had to have a separate server to retain all those posts. I guess it set a time limit and space limit on retained posts, so we lost a ton, but every now and then, I see some older posts pop up from someone's search. I think they did away with all the 90s and only kept those from the 2000s, because I've seen a few pop up from 2003 and 2005. Sadly, the early days were the best, when there were so many more members and so much great information....See MoreDo Kitchen Table people ever complain about houzz?
Comments (6)When Houzz picked up GW we had no warning but Houzz did take the time to set up Hot Topics as a separate forum and they also did that for Home and Decorating Conversations. And the glitch a couple of weeks ago was rather fun, although a little stressful (first world problem I know) because we talked with a bunch people from other sides. Keep at it and hopefully they will respond....See MoreYardvaark
