Should I be worried about roots in my sewer line?

Bought a house a year ago and am finally getting around to renovating the master bath. The house was built in 1945 on the Gulf Coast of Florida. I had a plumber scope the sewer line yesterday to deal with any issues with that before starting work on the renovation. There is approx. 10' of cast iron pipe leading out of the house, where it then changes to about 100' of 5' sections of clay pipe till it joins the city sewer line. The cast iron is very corroded and shows some cracks so we're planning on replacing that. The clay pipe was very clean but showed some minor infiltration of roots penetrating at some of the junctions. The plumber said they could come by and clean those out, he suggested twice a year. I don't like the thought of roots in the plumbing, but these were very fine, and only about 1" long. Is there a product I can flush down the toilet periodically to kill the roots? The thought of having a plumber clean out the pipe regularly is making me see $ signs.
