Leu Gardens Camellia Show & Sale! 1/17-18/09
Comments (2)I went to Leu today and was really impressed with the camellia show. Amazing blossoms - some WAY larger than I have ever seen. The camellias throughout Leu are in full bloom too and it was a treat to walk through the gardens in this beautiful sunny, but cool, weather. As a bonus, Robert Bowden's rose garden is also in full bloom and could not have been prettier. If you can get to Leu tomorrow, go! Kate...See MoreCamellias: Central Florida
Comments (7)Hey, Kate, funny you should ask. I was there this Sunday also and I wrote down the name of the one that I thought was the most beautiful of all. It was red and had hundreds of blooms. The name was Professor C.S.Sargeant. I was going to call the supplier in Apopka to see if he had any of them available. If he doesn't I'm going to do a web search. I'm going to be very interested in what others have to say here. I have perhaps 15 or so camellias and almost all are in bloom now. My favorites are the reds. They seem to stand out very well against the dark green leaves....See MoreGoing to the Leu Garden's Plant Sale?
Comments (18)I could have said almost exactly the same thing! We arrived early - about 8:30 - and waited for the gates to open because my friend isn't a member of the Gardens. It was her first sale too and she was as delighted with it as I was. We had to make a trip to the car to unload the first cartfull after just 30 minutes but then were more conservative the rest of the morning. The vendors were plentiful, the gardens were beautiful and the weather was perfect! And I even ran into a few GardenWebbers. I got back home in the early afternoon with enough time to plant most of what I purchased and spread 20 bags of mulch. What a great day! Kate...See MoreStuff to do near Sanford and Leu gardens
Comments (11)Goldenpond, After you visit Leu Gardens head to Winter Park. Others have mentioned Mead Gardens, ok but still suffering from hurricane damage, but no one mentioned the spectacular Polasek Gardens, 633 Osceola Ave. It is about 3 miles from Leu and is an extraordinary 3.5 acre sculpture garden, historic home and museum, as well as an amazing garden where something is always in bloom. Currently in the galleries is a juried photography show, Images from the Gardens, that is quite a treat for flower lovers. All photographs were taken there so you can see what's blooming at other times too. Then take the Winter Park Boat Tour and cruise by the many mansions and their great gardens. The Polasek is on Lake Osceola so you will get a waterside view as well. This site should be on a gardener's DO NOT MISS list. If you go on Thursday the Landscape Curator is there with a bunch a volunteers who LOVE to talk gardening and will answer any questions you might have. Tell them you heard about it here. They will be tickled. Have fun. Here is a link that might be useful: Polasek Museum and Sculpture Garden...See Morekatkin_gw
