Going to the Leu Garden's Plant Sale?

The annual Leu Garden's Plant Sale is coming up on March 20 and 21. If you live anywhere close to Orlando you won't want to miss this one. Bring a garden wagon with you to carry your purchases!

The gardens are free both days and open to the general public for the sale from 9am to 5pm. Members get in an hour early on Saturday.

Cathy, I'll try to leave you some orchids and ferns. Can't promise about anything else!

My PLAN is to restrict myself to a citrus tree (lemon or lime - can't decide), a couple of broms, and maybe an angelwing begonia. If anyone sees me with my little red wagon overflowing please stop me and remind me that I had a PLAN! LOL

(The wagon is pretty easy to spot because it says "Happy Solstice" on the back.)

Nick and I are going to hit it today too. He wants a new CP and then he wants to to go to Hollywood Studios, LOL, but he's still just 10. Did anyone get anything good? Was anyone selling carnivores? Last year at all the plant sales I bought gingers for under the Oak and Chinese Lantern tree on the border of my garden. While I was in India the neighbor cut down the Lantern tree and trimmed back the oak severly well over my yard. I probably had $300 worth of gingers under it that are all going white with sunburn. That was my only safe spot to grow them. But I don't want another 'enemy' neighbor. I already don't get along with my south neighbor. when he move in (we live in a circle cul-de-sac) he didn't know where the property line was and he cut down all of my plants in a flower bed including a papaya, a bay leaf, and a bougie. Then he argued about the property line! Like it had magically moved just because he moved in. Oh well.

Wooohooooo! I have turk's cap comin' at me from all directions! Thanks to all who have offered! Evelyn, I will go with you to dig the camellia from Betsy's yard, if you'd like to have it. I'm hoping to find a pink one somewhere for myself, so I'm thinking I'll hit Bob Wine's in Ocala on my way back from Gainesville next week. But I'd love to meet Betsy and, as I say, would be happy to help you dig, if you want to try to salvage her red & white one. Whaddya think? Is a road trip in order for us? Felix and everyone who recommended Bob Wine's, I appreciate the info, and plan to make a stop there. Also the nursery in Leesburg. I can hit them both next Tuesday on my way home, I think. And gardengrl, I would be thrilled to have your turk's cap. Mark and I could come dig it Saturday to save you the effort, but if that isn't convenient, I'll happily wait until you are ready with it. Whatever works best for you! Thank you, everyone! I'm going to WalMart today for some YT&T, if they have any, and I'm going to shop camellias in Leesburg and Ocala, and I'm going to get turk's cap from gardengrl's house.......wheeeeeeeeeeeeeee! Hi from your occasional SC poster. I went to the sale at Leu Gardens this past weekend. WOW. I had also come down for the February plant sale in Vero Beach. Even though some of the vendors do both shows, they had distinctly different plants. I plan on attending both next year again. This time I found a hardy olive tree and some wonderful large birds nest ferns. I also broke down and purchased a bottle palm at a Lowes. I had seen these on my February trip and after researching it, decided it was worth having to schlep it inside for a few months each year. Had a lovely visit with a woman and her son while eating lunch under the trees. She mentioned another plant show in the fall in Apopka. I may have to check that out if it's like these other 2 fabulous days I spent this spring in your state! Thanks to all who offered advice on nurseries to stop at. Melissa

Short report: nice show and nice gardens although the roses weren't in bloom this early. It was nice to be IN Orlando instead of driving thru it going somehwere else. Nice city. Lake Eola (sp?) is so pretty with it's swan boats (for rent?)and fountain in the middle. Good selection of OGR roses as well as roses on fortuniana, hard to find stuff. Bamboo,lots of tropicals, fruit trees, blueberries, butterfly and hummingbird plants, flowers, etc. Gardeners walking around in a daze, not looking where they are walking due to head swivelling constantly, lol. Babies being pulled in wagons and being displaced by plants, so added to the pedestrian melee. I never got MY wagon (stopped at many many places, too much $$) but saw what someone else did to imitate (photo to follow in another thread). tampasteve-thanks again for the vendor map link. parking was INSANE (9:30) but we got lucky. Never would have gotten a map because once you park inside you don't walk past the entrance to get info. Best to come prepared. Denise

I hope to be there. It all depends on how much a buy this weekend at the marion county master gardeners festival in Ocala. I've never been to Leu Gardens before.

Yes I am. Looking at the vendors map, I was sorry to see The Palm and Cycad Society not there. I was hoping to get some more palms to freeze. :>( Thanks for posting the map.

This is gonna be fun! I'm bringing a friend who has never seen Leu--she's in for a surprise. I bought her one of the rolling boxes to haul stuff. If she doesn't purchase anything herself, she can help me! Obviously I'm looking forward to it too! So much fun to share garden sales!!!!

Oh, supposed to be a gorgeous day, too! Near 80 degrees. Be still my heart!

The Central FL Palm Soc isn't going to be there but MB Palms is and has a wide variety. Also we are selling some palms at the Leu Gds. booth and so is UCF.

My friend and I arrived at the perfect time--9:15 a.m. We strolled and I helped her select plants unknown to her. We both had hauls and loved what we got! She wants to go again next year and so do I!

The displays were colorful, prices reasonable, and selection was wonderful!

I could have said almost exactly the same thing!
We arrived early - about 8:30 - and waited for the gates to open because my friend isn't a member of the Gardens. It was her first sale too and she was as delighted with it as I was. We had to make a trip to the car to unload the first cartfull after just 30 minutes but then were more conservative the rest of the morning.

The vendors were plentiful, the gardens were beautiful and the weather was perfect! And I even ran into a few GardenWebbers. I got back home in the early afternoon with enough time to plant most of what I purchased and spread 20 bags of mulch. What a great day!

Slowdive, if you copy the "HTML Code" line in photobucket and paste that into your message it will show the picture, not just the address. Hope that helps.

I agree that the plant is Golden Dew Drop, also called Sky Flower. Duranta erecta. I saw that container of it at the sale and thought it was beautiful. I had one in a container by my front door a couple years ago and loved it there. Unfortunately I lost it but I know some people have them live for years.

Not yet.
Try the one labeled "HTML Code". If you don't see it scroll to the bottom of your page of pictures and click on "generate html codes". You can go into preferences (or maybe its called properties?) and choose to always have Photobucket show the html codes.
