Eyeglass Frame Measurement

or many years, I have worn single vision round eyeglasses that are 49-21-145 with a vertical of 37mm. I bought a pair of 51-18-140 with a vertical of 33mm square shaped eyeglasses that I didn't like, were too heavy, fell down from my nose and I could see the frame on the side and below, which was annoying. Learning from that experience, I have visited several frame shops locally and I can't seem to locate round lightweight frames with the exact same dimensions as the ones I have worn for many years. Might as well stay with what I know and like. Amazingly, I found a pair of frames on eBay that are the exact same brand, shape and color as my old pair of 49-21-145 V37, but with the dimensions of 49-20-140 and a vertical of 35. The only other difference is that the temple piece of the frames on eBay attach to the lens area midway down as opposed to closer to the top on my current ones. Any idea on how this will affect viewing and how the eyeglasses will rest on my face? Is a reduction in vertical from 37mm to 35mm significant? Is the reduction in temple size from 145mm to 140mm significant? I spend a lot of time in front of my computer and don't want frames to be a distraction. Thank you in advance for any help you can offer.

This sounds like questions better answered by an optician.

Could you use your old frames and have your new RX put in the old ones? People do this all the time.

Ooh, good, I am SO glad you weren't considering pink for your lenses, I haven't seen those since the 70's, and even then they weren't appealing! I wear glasses too, and the unfortunate thing about frames is that you do have to try them on before choosing. Even one millimeter higher or lower on one side or in the middle will make or break the deal. Go in armed with your knowledge and your "want" list and let the salesperson show you those. Hopefully you will score with exactly what you want. I went in last year (my insurance covers up to $300/year for glasses) and I am very hard on my glasses, so I do need to replace them yearly. I headed for the usual wire rim section, my husband headed to the designer section and I got a pair with purple metalic rims and blue metallic arms. Never would have picked them out myself, but they are a good match for me and fun! Every glasses store you see just go in and try on pairs, it is free and you will have a larger search pool. I didn't see an actual frame set from the link but the feel I get from the site is not 'in your face" red but more a subdued aspect in the frame. Pam I think if your eyes are engaging - and based on your personality i would guess you do your eyes to communicate effectively - any color or shape in frames simply becomes an accessory not the main event, but supportive in a big way to the main event. My husband has been wearing glasses since early childhood and he has gorgeous caribean blue eyes that were hiding behind heavy wrong color tear drop shaped frames when I met him. Before we even were involved - just friends - I took him for new glasses. He felt like a million bucks and when i got disengaged he got the courage to drive me to the airport for a business trip and kiss me - but that's another story! I'm not a big fan of the glasses styles that are popular right now but "what cha gonna do?" It's either that or wear out of style glasses. My niece, who is beautiful, has a pair of plastic black skinny glasses that look horrible on her, they are not at all flattering but she apparently loves them so...whatever. I tell ya what looks crazy now looking back at old styles of glasses is watching movies that are from (I believe) the 80s that are GIANT and take up most of the face. HAHAHA! I have about 10 pairs of readers all over the house and they are all plastic rims that look positively dreadful on me. GAH! The glasses that you bought look pretty cute.

This is a subject that is near & dear to me. LOL! I've been wanting new frames for a while now, but my progressive script kept changing, meaning I needed new lenses every 6 months. (Cause is cataracts forming, we're watching them) So the last time I was at the eye doctors, my script hadn't changed that much so I decided I wanted new frames. I looked around at the selection at my eye doctors and was disappointed. I told the Optometrist that I wanted color, but not just one color. He told me to pick out a frame from the Tom Davies selection; I also like rectangular frames, and then I could customize the colors that I wanted. Colors, plural .... he pulled out these folders of amazing colors and I picked 4 different colors for my frames. They aren't cheap, and they took a while to come in since they were custom made for me, but I love them. And I will wear them for years to come. I have never even had a second pair of glasses. After going through 4 months of cataract removal and healing I treated my self to an extra pair, my reg glass frames are like my old one and I bought small red plastic for fun and I love them. I may even buy a purple pair when I go back for a check up. Lots of fun.
