Why does it look like this sugar maple is dying?
Comments (77)Just for the sake of chronicling this experience, I ended up spraying right after my last reply. It took about 3 mins and exactly 1 gallon to do all the trees and some shrubs. The wind was so calm and I knew it was my only chance. It rains here about once or twice a month yet it will happen when i need it to stay dry. It looks like some light sprinkles now....See MoreDoes anyone else have Monkey Puzzle Trees
Comments (124)The most recently posted Long Island street view is from 2012! No proof they are still there after the 2 polar vortex winters. And the other recent winter that was very cold in New England but not as much down here. (2016 IIRC: well below 0F on Martha's Vineyard. Have no idea how LI fared) They often look out of place in typical residential settings but I think those twin Seattle trees suit the house and are well taken care of so I give them a pass! Good catch GG. I am actually wondering if the NW DC, Bethesda, and Baltimore trees survived this horrid summer...by far the most humid I can remember. We barely had any comfortable dewpoints throughout September, not until the last few days. USUALLY cold fronts start pushing in some crisp weather by the 2nd week of Sept. It was a constant steambath since May. And yes it is humid compared to the PNW, but constant dewpoints 70F or above are not normal at least up here. There's a reason you see at least a few old ironclad rhodies in the DC/Baltimore area, but none in the deep south. And other than the late June/early July drought/heatwave - just long enough to be a nuisance - incredible rainy spells, one after another. I'm lucky to have only lost a couple important rhodies to root rot. OTOH it was nice to not worry about watering the 6 or so new planted camellias in my garden. They are so thirsty in the first year!...See MoreFeel like I am dying - so sad
Comments (8)I'm so sorry, both for your tragic & heartbreaking loss & for your despair. You're laboring under a crushing amount of grief, pain, depression, &, although it's unearned, guilt. You're absolutely entitled to your despair, anybody would be in despair... but don't let it kill you. You are not only the mother of 4 living children, you're the link between them & their brother, & you're the only one alive who has the memories that you have; without you, those most intimate memories of your son would be gone forever. Please call your doctor & insist on some good anti-depressants (get your husband to help if you can't summon the strength to insist); depression is a physical problem, &, while talking therapy can give you insight, *it won't make you feel better*. The synapses in our brains don't fire right when we're depressed, & that makes us feel worse, & that makes the synapses get more off-kilter... It's like a car engine that's "missing"; you can tinker with all kinds of things in that engine, but you have to get it to fire correctly to fix the "miss". It takes a while for anti-depressents to work, so meanwhile, & I know it's hard because you don't feel like doing it, get some oxygen to your brain. Enlist your husband's help if you can't force yourself to do it on your own, sign up for a jazzercise class, do whatever it takes, but move move move. Get your heart rate up & you'll get good oxygenated blood to your brain, which will make your synapses fire more efficiently & you'll function better. Please take care of yourself, & enlist the help of anybody you can, husband, friends, family, people from church, anybody & everybody, to help you do it. & please post here again. We all want you to be your own self again, & we wanna know about it....See MoreFeel like passing out during a hot flash?
