can someone please help me I.D. this please?

I've had this tree for years and it hasn't seemed to really grow at all. I'd like to know exactly what it is, or at least what family it is in so I can give it the right care. I don't know much about conifers or evergreens. Thank you

Any bagged general purpose potting soil. Look at Sunset Publishing web site (gardening section) or Sunset Western Garden Book to see what parts of California thought suitable for growing this tree as an outdoor landscape feature.

I think it's Cunninghamia lanceolata. A bit too far away for me to say for certain and it's not a plant I see in my zone.

An extremely unhappy Norfolk Idland Pine (Araucaria heterophylla) or similar species Cook pine (A. columnaris). Either way, it needs way more sun, moisture and probably heat to look normal.

The second picture looks like an amur maple, but the colouring on the first photo looks too magenta in tone. I have this maple, or at least what is left of it after the rabbits get after it every winter. It surely is a nice colour in the fall. ....if only I could get some upward growth...

That is Trachemys scripta, the Red-eared or Yellow-bellied Slider. Trachemys eggs usually hatch around 60 days after they are laid., but if it is warmer than usual they can hatch sooner.

They're really cheap, so treating it like an annual is cool. I always dug mine up and tossed them in paper bags. Eventually they got really big, like wagon wheels, so I'd cut them apart and store the pieces. When I got bored of them, I just let them in to rot back in during winter.

i go with norfolk ... not sure its really a pine ... so go with the latin name ...

its a houseplant for most of us.. and i recommend that forum if you are going to keep it potted ... i am not sure its a full sun plant in a pot .... and that is why it does ok indoors ....

i am sure it can do great things in its native habitat.. but that would not include a pot ... you dont mention where you are.. it might not favor winter outdoors ...

they are extremely cheap at bigboxstore... i dont recommend spending a lot of money to try to save this rather common plant ...

it most likely needs to be repotted.. and so i include PROPER MEDIA in the cost ..

I think it's going to take a lot of tlc to make your Norfolk Island Pine look good again, I'm afraid. I have one, but it's an indoor plant in my zone 5b/6a. A couple of years ago I decided to put it outside on the deck for the summer, and I didn't acclimate it slowly enough beforehand because it really burned up in the brighter light.

The branches stayed brown after taking it inside again after the summer, and that brown part of the plant never really recovered. I just repotted it last week and kept only the green, healthy-looking stems. I probably won't put it outside again.

Thank you guys for all the awesome responses and info. I live in zone 9 central California valley. High high 20's in the coldest of winters, and getting hotter every summer, it got up to 116° a few years ago. The tree was in full shade by a very large pond so probably helped with humidity a bit. What would you guys recommend for media?
