Another Houzz change-sending messages without following

I copied this post from Jasminerose4u in the rose forum. In case anyone is interested to communicate with other gardenweb members without following.

"Hi there, If you click where you see "Your Houzz" in the upper right corner of your screen, then click Edit Profile, you will see a link for Advanced Settings on the left side of your screen. Click that link to see more settings, including your messaging setting. Hope that helps!"

I just viewed the FAQ's to see the updates and thank goodness they allow messages now between folks. I went in and made sure the box was checked to allow messages and noticed the change. Good to know and thanks for posting :)

I had the box checked last week under E Mail notification "When someone messages me", but see now that there is indeed a new addition further on down the page that gets rid of the "follow me" requirement for messages and allows just "anyone to message me". Good deal. Now if they would just give me back the option to post with my URLs from Picture Trails I'll be back to where I was (I hope).......Maryl

Sue, I did receive your private message and just responded. You are right on. I can not read the message in my email because with HOUZZ it is sent as a "private message". My private email only tells me that somone has sent me a HOUZZ message, thus I have to sign in to HOUZZ to read it .........On GW, we were sending an "email", thus I could read the message in my email.. Hello o o o o Annie, is anybody home???? This is what I say when something is so obvious and I don't figure it out....LOL!!! Email vs private message....kind of basic!!!! Thanks for being an awesome rbb...... Annie

Thank you, roselee, for referencing this how-to in another post. I find the houzz' Help setup to be lacking. The answers may all be there, but finding one is like a scavenger hunt.

Pop-up message issue - still a problem with Houzz/Gardenweb

Brad: Thank you for the info. I got PlantStep back up and working last week. AdwCleaner moved it to the C drive and labeled all the files with a .vir extension. I had to use a program that will delete the .vir from the PlantStep files in bulk, reinstall PlantStep and then overlay the cleaned files back into PlantStep to get all my data and pictures back into the software. I would caution anyone on using AdwCleaner. I have a program within Windows that does a check of Services running on startup which will give me a list of programs that I might want to not have run on startup. I even disabled the AdBlockerPlus, cleared out the cache, temp files and still the issue with Houzz continues. The message is definitely being generated from Houzz. I upload photos to other sites without issue. Just Houzz has something that changed. I already got notification from Windows that my version of Windows and Apps will not be a problem with the new update. I'm still waiting for the message that I can install which probably won't happen for a few days as they roll it out.

hummm....I thought I was all set up. Do I have to check the box under PRIVACY SETTINGS that says: "Allow users to Follow my profile". I don't have that box checked but I DO have the pull down menu just below it set at "allow anyone to message me". Surely that's pretty inclusive......... I thought it would work. I guess it doesn't. Now what?.....Maryl

If you check the "allow anyone to message me" and update the profile change, then it should work. Perhaps, you forgot to hit the "Update" button after you made the selection and your change was not saved.
