what is your favorite white paint?
Comments (11)Oh Fun-C... I'm not so sure on that! "Commercial White" DOES kinda send a "chill" up my spine...;-) Some whites by Ralph-Lauren I like: Golf Tee White, Country Stove White, Design Studio White, & Tackroom White. Yeah...the HUGE "Urban/PAINTING-legend" that a smidgen of Black/other colorant in a gallon magically makes it "cover" better is pure baloney. It just makes a different COLOR!! >>> The level of, and grind-quality of, Titanium-Dioxide in a paint is what determines "Coverage". A better word here should be OPACITY. Coverage means, more correctly, how much AREA a particular can will "cover", at a given spread rate/mill-thickness, and still be a viable film. >>> 99% of paints out there shouldn't be spread thinner than the rate of 400sf/gal. anyway. That's the absolute max. Faron...See Morewhats your favorite white trim paint?
Comments (22)Diana, Are you saying that gray colors are not available in full spectrum color paints? Only colors and browns? Full spectrum paint uses no black. If you think back to your color theory classes I am sure you will recollect that black absorbs all color wavelengths evenly and completely , white reflects all color wavelengths evenly and completely, gray absorbs some of the color wavelengths and reflects some of the color wavelengths, but a pure neutral gray does this perfectly evenly across the color spectrum, giving you a chromatic value of 0. Brown, tan, beige and cream reflect more yellow, red or orange than blue, green or purple. As for my choice of words, I choose to say things in ways that are easily understood by the masses. If we walked into home depot and asked 10 guys buying lumber which white was dirtier, showing them samples of Cotton Balls and White Dove I am betting all 10 would choose White Dove as the dirtier of the two. If we asked them which white was the most saturated or chromatic white I am betting most would incorrectly choose White Dove because it appears slightly darker, but in reality the chromatic value of white dove is lower than the chromatic value of cotton balls. Most people who have not taken a color theory class and don't work with color on a consistent basis don't understand the difference between shade, tint and tone. They think in terms they understand - a light blue gray or a pink beige. I read an article the other day in Forbes. The advice at the end of the article is targeted toward math and science concepts, but is really good advice for anyone trying to communicate information on any topic that may not be widely understood. https://www.forbes.com/sites/marshallshepherd/2020/03/23/is-the-math-too-hard-for-people-to-understand-covid-19-coronavirus/#793f20dd6a9c...See Morewhat’s your favorite off white paint color?

Comments (9)Thank you everyone for the help! To answer some of the questions…. The large windows face east. I’m coming from a house that was facing south, so the lighting is completely different at the new house which is throwing me off. The new house was so dark when we bought it, I feel like every bulb was a warm 40w bulb, so far I have replaced the great room & entry flyer with LED 4000k natural light bulbs & took off the ember colored shades on the chandeliers. In the kitchen & hearth room next to the great room they just finished painting it Revere Pewter at 50%. I also just had the master bedroom painted yesterday in BM Classic Gray, it does look a little beige to me. I wish I could hire a color consultant, but there is just no time, I have to let the painter know the paint color choice today....See Morevioletwest
