Color Combo Favorites: Black, White and Yellow
An eye-popping color combination
When I ask designers and other creatives for their decorating advice, they often say to be aware of which colors you are drawn to and to use those. Personally, I have always been a sucker for an old fashioned taxi. The bright yellow, the contrasting black and white; I just love it. Perhaps it is related to my addiction to using yellow highlighters on the printed page. I'm not sure.
Black, white, and yellow are an eye-popping color combination and I can't get enough of it. It's cheery but edgy. It can also take on a lot of different moods. If you want to tone it down a bit, try a lighter yellow, or replace black with gray. To make less of a contrast, use about 80% of one of the colors, and 10% of each of the others. Or try a 45/45/10% combo. Or just experiment, as I just realized that trying to assign percentage formulas is really stupid. What I meant was, compare the top photo to the bottom photo to see the level of POW! you want out of the contrast. Does that make any sense at all? I think I need to eat lunch now, I'm clearly losing it.

High contrast; high POW! level!

Here the yellow appears in just enough spots to make an impact.
Mostly black and white with a little touch of yellow.
This is a LITTLE more toned down - I love the way these pieces on the wall contrast with the charcoal gray.
Here replacing black with gray tones the combination down for a farmhouse.
Taxicabs and graffiti - this is urban and even a little prison cell inspired!
This is where I've combined these colors in my own bedroom.
I know it's ridiculous that I have two doughnut phones in my bedroom. The other one isn't even plugged in!
