I am a doofus - CL purchase gone wrong
Comments (25)FINALLY! I have an update! After many voice mail messages left and emails unreturned, I emailed and asked the shop owner if she would give me the old slipcover so I could make new slips for the chairs myself. (We had previously arranged for her to make them for $25 each provided I used her fabric; she told me they would take 1.5 weeks, but of course she never made them.) I also mentioned I was still waiting for resolution of my overpayment. She replied and said I could have the old slipcover, but didn't mention a refund. A few days later, I left a phone message saying my husband would be in her town at the end of the week and that he would stop by to pick up the old slip. I told him to not leave there without some commitment from her to make this situation right. Good old DH called me from her store then put her on the phone. She offered to refund $300; $200 for the overpayment and an additional $100 to put toward my slipcover fabric. I thought that was more than fair and of course accepted her offer. While I'm not happy it took so long (90 days) and felt her business practices were less than desirable, I am glad I waited this out than go to small claims court. So now on to the task of finding fabric for my new slipcovers! Thanks to all who weighed in on my little soap opera! :)...See MoreScam using Publishers Clearing House name
Comments (3)I've given up on stupid people, too. These scams are highlighted on news shows, in newspapers, in magazines, on the internet, and even my bank will try very hard to prevent you from depositing a Nigerian "cashier's" check. Some people will just let greed rule. If it's not greed, they are too ignorant to be handling their own finances. Why would anyone think they had to pre-pay income tax on money they haven't received???...See MoreThis is a new one
Comments (11)What an act! Here's a swindler confessing to being a life long swindler and he's trying to swindle again. The swindle could be that telephone number. If that is an off-shore international number, you might get hit with a hugely inflated phone bill. Scams like this has surfaced over the past year. The off-shore "service" charges upward of $200 per minute. Delaying tactics are used during the call to up the time. The caller is none the wiser until the charge appears on his next phone bill. Charges up to $2000 are not unusual. A less ambitious scammer may charge a smaller amount, say $20, in hopes you will pay the bill to get rid of it rather than to go through the process of refuting the bill. Setting up shop off-shore puts the operation beyond the reach of US agencies....See MoreHas anyone subscribed...
Comments (10)DD's boyfriend's family signed up for that triple service. And found it was a huge mistake. The phone was out 2 weeks out of every 3. Not worth the money. A question--if your phone is tied to the cable, does that mean that everytime the cable goes out, your phone does too? Isn't that a little risky? considering the most important reason for having a phone is for emergencies? Over the years, I've found my phone service a LOT more reliable than my cable service. For that reason alone, I'd hesitate to go with one provider for all....See More- 11 years agolast modified: 11 years ago
