to the "triple play" services provided by some cable companies? For example, you get Digital TV, high speed internet and phone service for $99/month for a year. I'm wondering if it really pays off, or if by the time you add the extras like converter boxes, more than 1 TV, etc. it comes out to about the same. Right now I have reg cable and internet service and pay about $108 w/taxes each month, Then my phone service is just local calls, no long distance, and the bill averages about $30 per month.

We have all three with Brighthouse Cable--digital TV, HS internet and phone service with unlimited long distance any time, any place in the US, Canada, Mexico and ? Ours is $121 a month including all the stupid taxes they add on, so the phone alone pays with my large spread-out family. No problems so far and I like everything on one bill--fewer checks to write.

We have something different, but the phone and internet are together. I hate it. If you don't have internet, the phone is down. I have a cell phone, but Id like to have a real phone in case of emergency.

Today I recieved the initial copy of Tropic Home & Garden magazine. What a disgusting mess !!! It looked as though the US Postal Sevice flushed it to me through the sewer system! I can't open the pages as they're stuck together and the publication is so badly damaged I can't even try to read it. I've e-mailed the company and await a reponse. Barrie.

Here's one I found online. It's not attributed to anyone but reads like a Cooks Illustrated recipe, especially the "jagged edge" instructions at the end. Big and Chewy Low-Fat Chocolate Chip Cookies To get a flavorful, and tender, cookie, we use date puree to replace three-quarters of the butter. Browning the remaining butter concentrates and boosts its flavor, adding just enough richness to mask the slight fruit flavor from the dates. The browned butter also allowed us to cut the amount of chocolate chips back to 1/2 cup. To make sure each cookie contains some chips, press a portion of the chips over each dough ball just before putting the cookies in the oven. Dried dates can be found in the nut and dried fruit section of the supermarket. Be sure to buy dates that are still supple. Makes 18 cookies 1 cup water 4 tablespoons chopped dates 3 tablespoons unsalted butter 2 cups all-purpose flour 1/2 teaspoon baking soda 1/2 teaspoon table salt 1 1/4 cups packed light brown sugar 1 large egg 2 teaspoons vanilla extract 1/2 cup semisweet chocolate chips 1. Adjust oven rack to middle position and heat oven to 325 degrees. Line 2 baking sheets with parchment paper. 2. Bring water to boil in small saucepan over medium-high heat. Add dates and simmer until tender and most of water has evaporated, about 20 minutes. Using rubber spatula, press dates through fine-mesh strainer into medium bowl. Scrape dates remaining in strainer into bowl (you should have 1/4 cup puree). Cook butter in small saucepan over medium heat until nutty brown, about 4 minutes. Let cool. 3. Whisk flour, baking soda, and salt in medium bowl. With electric mixer on medium speed, beat melted butter, brown sugar, and date puree in large bowl until blended. Beat in egg and vanilla until combined. Add flour mixture and mix on low until just combined. Reserve 2 tablespoons chips, and stir remaining chips into batter by hand. 4. Following the steps below, form dough into 18 cookies and space them 2 inches apart on prepared baking sheets. Press remaining 2 tablespoons chips evenly over cookies. 5. Bake until edges are light golden brown and centers are soft and puffy, 15 to 18 minutes, rotating baking sheet front to back halfway through baking. Cool cookies completely on baking sheets. Serve. (Cookies will keep in airtight container at room temperature for up to 3 days.) PER COOKIE: Cal 120; Fat 3 g STEP BY STEP: The Jagged Edge 1. Roll 2 tablespoons of dough into a ball. Hold the dough ball with the finger-tips of both hands and pull it into two equal halves, creating jagged edges. 2. Rotate the cookie halves so that the jagged surfaces are facing up. Press the two halves together at their base so that they form a single ball. 3. Space the balls of dough, jagged side up, 2 inches apart on the prepared baking sheets.

We have all three through Cox Cable we don't have converter boxes...We have 8 outlets in the house...no extra price for them..we have 5 tv working off them right now...and we pay 114.00 a month...when we had AT&T and dish network we paid around 40.00 for phone and 70 for dish net. and we had to suffer with dial up...So this is WAY better...YUP

We have the 3 through Comcast and we figure it's about a dollar or 2 more @$122. a month...But we have digital TV, now have high speed puter and unlimited phone...I figure, I won't have to be buying phone cards any more, so in a way, it's cheaper...Of course, when the year is up, who knows what the charge will be....

No converter boxes here, either. I think those are for satellite. With cable you just have a cable outlet thingie in the rooms you want a TV in.

Irishdancer, did Comcast offer that price as a "special"? It sounds like the regular price. Our company offers a $99 special for six months, but the $121 we pay is just what it is. (At least until it goes up like everything else these days!)

We recently added that service through Charter. We did have basic cable & internet for about $78 per month. Our Verizin bill for unlimited calling, etc was about $80. When we changed to the package, we got expanded cable, internet & unlimited phone for $99, price good for 12 months. So far we are very happy and pleased.

We have the "bundle" with one of the local companies (WOW). We have basic cable, high speed internet and phone service (unlimited long distance included) for $120.00 a month. A competitor is offering the bundle for $99.00 (good for a year) so I expect some special from our provider as a counter move.....

DD's boyfriend's family signed up for that triple service. And found it was a huge mistake. The phone was out 2 weeks out of every 3. Not worth the money.

A question--if your phone is tied to the cable, does that mean that everytime the cable goes out, your phone does too? Isn't that a little risky? considering the most important reason for having a phone is for emergencies? Over the years, I've found my phone service a LOT more reliable than my cable service. For that reason alone, I'd hesitate to go with one provider for all.

We've had our three in one for over a year...our cable or phone or high speed have never gone out.
