Does this layout look ok?
Comments (21)Good morning, I emailed the architect and he said he was always for keeping the door but ultimately it's my decision. According to him, it wouldn't add much additional expense to remove that door and put a window there, if that's what we wanted. So, that's a relief. He thought the flow was good as is. I bet he probably doesn't do a lot of the cooking ( or cleaning) in his family. I can't imagine being jammed up in that corner loading the dishwasher. The door , we were going to replace the existing door with, would have probably been a full panel of glass for more light in the kitchen. Not a good combination with a dishwasher behind it. Now, I just have to get my dh on board! Garden window ( behind sink) in door mode- I don't think this would be possible as right outside our sliding doors ( in breakfast room) is a raised stone patio. The stairs leading down to the side yard and beyond are almost directly under this window. Also, turning the window (to the right of the range) a door is also impossible as the outside stairs leading to the basement are almost right underneath. It would have been a great idea to turn that area into a mudroom of sorts. Measurements- the only measurements not listed on the layout above, I think, are the two window measurements ( flanking the range) and aisle widths. Those windows are 28" wide by 39.5" high. The aisle widths are 3ft 6", if I recall correctly. The kitchen is on the west side of the house so we get direct sun as it's setting. Please, if there is anything I left out, ask away! Thank you very much for taking time out of your day to help me. Best, DAC PS I just edited this post to include a response to a question about a windows possibly becoming doors posed by ttbl123. Comments (4)I like it and it looks like with your cute kids you need the seating! I would change out the chair cushions from green to red or a blue pattern to work better with the red and blue rug. Add a larger TV and a solid door console underneath TV that is about 25 percent wider than the TV. It will add weight and and strength and help balance the sofa.....possibly an arc lamp as you have no end tables? Art work can be big and bold or use multiples to give the feeling of weight, but just an opinion....See MoreDoes this Rug look ok paired with these Throw Pillows
Comments (37)I'm guessing that one of you inherited grandmother's home, and you moved your own casual slip-covered style sectional into it. That explains the total contradiction with the drapes, tables, rug and mirror. It is a very large rug; maybe too big for a bedroom if your home is small. I see why you like it; the colors are appealing, but I doubt it has much value. Certainly worth finding out, but my own experience is that no one will pay you what it is worth. My 5x7 Qum was purchased in the 70's for $2,500. Appraised at $5,000 in the late 80's and can't get $800 for it today, although the original appraiser said it should be worth $10,000+ by now. Depends on where you are and who might pay for it, if you decide you're not keeping it. If you intend to keep all the original furnishings of the home, you should probably plan to style new purchases to fit in well with granny's stuff. Otherwise, you could have a "living" estate sale and get rid of the items that have no real sentimental or high $$ value to you....See MoreDoes this look ok?
Comments (20)I'm a little nervous about a potted plant being on an heirloom. It looks like the pot isn't porous, but temperature changes could lead to slight condensation. I would hate to have a ring there. I like the picture of your father-in-law there or other items of his. You did a great job cleaning up both the chest and mirror, and that's a great place for them both. Do lower the mirror....See MoreAnn
