I know for sure your husband will like the first two.

Well my daughter took the kids to Paddington bear. Did not like it at all. Neighbor liked the sniper movie.

Loved The Imitation Game. I also liked the Theory of Everything; Ed Redmayne is very good. But my favorite movie is the first one I mentioned.

"Selma"

Its a heavy movie about Martin Luther King's involvement and leadership during the civil rights struggle. The movie is well done and seems to be historical accurate. The actor playing Rev. King did a credible job of doing his voice and speech delivery, but was not quite at the level of the original. Overall, the acting and portrayal was very good The movie runs about 2 hrs. There are violent scenes where black demonstrators were beaten.

However, if you have a bad taste in your mouth over the civil rights movement during the 1960s, don't go, otherwise, I recommend it.

Saw "Unbroken" this week.....I thought it was very good. Saw "American Sniper" a couple of weeks ago, and have such mixed feelings about it..

Only have seen one movie recently--"Wild." I did not care for it. Looks like American Sniper is the top movie currently. DH said it was bloody.

So sorry I missed Theory of Everything, will have to watch it on dvd I guess. But I really enjoy the movie theater experience!

I was shocked to read this sentiment expressed, though I'm sure the comment was sincere. Do such people exist?

I want to see Boy Next Door with J Lo, the trailer looks good. But we never go to the movies, wish I could get him to want to go. We used to go as date night with some of our friends to the movie grill, very comfortable seating and really good food and drinks for those that drink. Have not been since we moved here.

Still Alice is due to be released on February 13th.

My movie group saw Paddington a week ago. We all enjoyed it but even though DH wanted to see it, I don't think it's a guy movie.

I have not seen Unbroken but those of my friends who have (females) did not care for it even though they read and liked the book. They said too much time was spent on his being in the ocean, and not enough time on his life after the war.

I have not seen The Theory of Everything but I understand the acting was superb and am looking forward to seeing it on video.

Saw Still Alice a week ago. Good movie but liked the book also.

I'm relieved to hear that Still Alice will be released on February 13, likely to a wider range of theaters this time. It's not in our city yet and I am looking forward to seeing it. I really enjoyed the book.

Yes, there are people who hated the civil rights movement; George Wallace for one. And then there are folks who do not enjoy reliving the bad scenes of the past.

My comment was meant to convey the idea that this was a pro- civil rights movie. Personally, I thought the movie was excellent.

I just saw "Theory.." last night and it was superb. The story centers mostly on his personal life and the acting was positively amazing.

So we did see Imitation Game and loved it. Again, thank you, everyone, for helping us have a great night out!

jemdandy, there were a lot more people who hated the segregation and Jim Crow laws that shamefully and disgustingly prevailed in the South up until the early 1960s. Anyone who today can't understand these wrongs deserves to be provoked again and again until they get it.

Glad you and hubby had a great night out. I highly recommend American Sniper. While not a movie you "enjoy", it is very well done and I think a must see. JMO

Went to see Black or White on Friday and really liked it.

We're hoping to find "The Judge" available at some Redbox soon. Copies are all out, BluRay or not.

We just finished watching The Grand Budapest Hotel. The story of a luxurious hotel in the 1930's.
Very well written, great scenery, humour and drama.
Bill Murray, F. Murray Abraham, Jeff Goldblum are in it.

DH came home with "The Two Faces of January", and we are halfway through it. It's an intriguing plot. I have no idea what will happen next, and that's not often the case with me and mysteries. (Seen far too many, obviously!)

raven? I know you have to wait, but on Tuesdays movies are put on sale...wm usually beats target's prices (about $14 for non-bluray)

and we have a number of places for take out, including Chinese, subs and corned beef...

so we have our own movie night for a fraction of going out...perhaps you can ask some new friends or old to join you...
