Hi! Good memory! Yes, I did post about this last fall. Since then, we painted the trim a darker color (as suggested by a few people on this blog) and painted the front door red.

we were hoping to do something to spruce up the front yard and loved the suggestions so much from last time. we were also planning on getting a trellis added above the garage this week.

I was about to suggest the trellis/arbor over the garage door. Other ideas might be something in the bare spot at the front of the corner bed--such as a copper obelisk, a large rock, or an appropriately sized fountain. Another idea for the yard is to combine two or more of the trees by surrounding them with a bed--here in Georgia we would put azaleas in it. You would put whatever is suitable in your area. On the left edge of the picture it looks like there are two trees close together where you could do that. You could do the same thing to the 3 trees on the left of the walk to the front door. With low shrubs and annual color it would highlight the path to the front door. I wouldn't necessarily do both beds. Do you have a picture from further back? It might help to see it from the street.

I would paint the house a sage green or slightly olive green, and the trim either a darker shade of the siding color or slightly lighter color. Your house is a classic ranch style that I like very much, and the setting is outstanding. I'd probably concentrate on replanting that bed in front to the right (from my POV) of the entrance and make it as eye catching with color and interest as possible. Would also pull out shrubs along left side frontage and redo with suitable foundation plantings that would echo the bed on the opposite side.

here's the front from a little farther back, the picture is just a little outdated as the trim is a different color now. What types of plants do you think would mesh well with the setting of the house? most of the trees are oak trees so we want to stick with the theme.

I love the idea of a fountain and the azaelas, thank you. for some reason people in my neighborhood tend to rock around the oak trees. Is there a need for that? do you think that would look good in our yard?

The darker trim has helped a lot. It also looks like you've cleaned up a lot by removing pots along the pathway. As kswl suggested, you could improve the foundation plants on the left .

I see a lot of things that seem wrong here. Your house is so beautiful. The house itself needs very little changed.
