I kinda like what she has going, although I would paint the door perhaps a brownish color.

I tired to get the colors you asked for, but they all looked too bright. I was just using MS Paint. I like these colors though leaving the siding the same color.

Like lottamoxie, I was going to suggest taupe, black and red. I also love green (olive or sage)for the body of the house with black shutters.

The country blue with yellow door really doesn't do anything for me.

The taupe and burgundy shutters would look great together.

I like the idea of blue but with a black or red door. Green is kinda nice too. What about a soft yellow? The browns are a little drab to me but maybe it just needs colorful landscaping.

Forgot the tan/taupe one. I'm using Ben Moore and as some of you know, the colors are limited. Any of the true taupes came out looking pink on the monitor.

Any chance of your friend getting some taller foundation plantings? Some 6' rhododendrons would help obscure that odd foundation thingy, plus she'd have some nice spring flowers.

She did redo the plantings so that area is pretty fille din and she is having the exposed foundation covereed in stone (not sure what it's called).

Those blues look nice. I'll show her and get some feedback.

Probably already knows not to do anything with paint color until the stone is done. After the stone is up, she might have a dozen new color directions to chase. :D

Exterior isn't like interior. Interior you do not have to have every last stitch in place to fit a room with color. As long as the basics, permanent elements are in place you can work color. Exterior isn't near as malleable because Mr. Sunshine is so darn intense and direct outside. Get the foundation covered in stone and then take another look.

I'm thinking, with the stone in place, she should consider going light and neutral on the body or commit big and go with a dark, punchy color scheme with some drama. Safe midtones could add up to just a mediore color outcome for that house. A really cute house, btw.

I think it depends on the look she wants. If she wants a more typical (dare I say "suburban"?) look, then I think the current color she has is OK and can stick with that.

However, I think it has a lot of potential to look more cozy cottage (my favorite style). In that case, I like the blues shown above (I prefer with the red door). Another option would be a yellow exterior and white shutters. Cute window boxes under the windows in white . . .it would look adorable!

I'm with funcolors. If she's having the exposed foundation covered in stone then it would be better if she waited to choose color accordingly.

While I like some of the taupes - working with the brownish roof. Taupe is a difficult color to get right - I see many homes with def pinks in the taupe colors - in different lighting

Definitely wait for the stone to be installed. As funcolors said, the stone will control what other colors may blend.

Had there been no stone, my first thought would be to paint the trim board between the siding and foundation the same as the body color -- no need to accentuate the difference in materials with a beltline like that. Particularly with that odd little bit on the left where the siding drops down.

HMMM I lived in this exact style green house when growing up.They put on beige recently BLECH!
I loved the BLUE!
And I know I will get hate mail for this but if you get ugly stones they can be painted or whitewashed .
White rocks can be stunning(think Texas),we had to paint our yellowish orange ones white and it was OH so much better.
Hopefully a gray or slate stone will look nice with that blue(or with a sagey grey,green)but if they put in those orangey tones HELLO 1960s!
