Master bath,shower room,powder room combo
Comments (6)Scott, I also have a similar arrangement- but mine is a little bit smaller at 15.5' X 9.25'. We haven't begun to renovate the bathrooms yet, so I'm still at the beginning planning stage- but when I mentioned that I was thinking of opening up the guest bathroom to the master bedroom I had lots of opposition from family members, particularly my parents who said they would never buy a house that 'shared' the Master Bathroom. We are empty nesters with an additional full bathroom in the basement- so it's not like we NEED a bathtub in our essentially guest bath- but we forsee selling and retiring within the next ten years, so resale is definitely a factor as well as making it work the best for our needs. Do you or anyone else know if there is a site that shows layouts (as architectural drawings instead of or in addition to pictures)? I am wondering if there is a more efficient way to rearrange the positions of tub, bath and sink? I want a fairly good sized soaker tub-(my compromise is to have it in the guest bath, and have a large shower in MB) so it may work best for me not to change the walls, but if your layout is like mine, perhaps you could rearrange the 'pieces' and steal some space for your Master Bath?...See MoreDark paint in small windowless powder room?
Comments (24)Glad to hear you sound excited about the Caponata. 'Tis true that you can never tell what a paint color really looks like until it is actually up on the wall in the room to be painted and interacting with everything in there, including and especially the lighting. I also think painting swatches on a wall, even in the room to be painted, is useless. It's so deceived by the existing wall color surrounding it. I have found that, painting the swatch right up to any trim, coming from behind a fixture, like a sink, etc., really helps to get a good idea as to what the color will look like. Fortunately for you, the light in your powder room doesn't really change throughout the day, since you don't have a window, so you won't get any surprises, like in the morning it's great color, but in the afternoon, it goes blah, or whatever. Let us know what you decide and post pics when and if you're able!...See MoreOddly placed electrical box in small powder room
Comments (19)ok, let me reiterate,,,,if you move that box, with all it's wires and junctions, 2 feet to the left, then what is left behind is nothing. you don't have put a cover over it or disclose it (!) And for the record, you cannot close up a live junction behind any wall or ceiling. That's not what I suggested. I said, if there were enough play in the wires, you could transplant that box to the new hole. that's best and cheapest scenario. However, if that couldn't be done,(if the wires were too short to move) then a new box would have to be installed, the old box wires would have to be connected to the new box, and that's where you'd get your cover plate. If this ceiling is beneath an attic, it makes moving this so much easier. You would junction the new box w/the old box wires and put the box in the attic. But, if this ceiling is beneath another floor, where you are working between joists, then unless you can trace the original electrical source to this old box, disconnect it and run a new line, then yes, you will be stuck w/the cover....See MorePowder Room Sink: How small is too small?
Comments (34)I found this awesomeness when I searched on Houzz just now, but I'm not sure I can afford it: [https://www.houzz.com/photos/classicism-refreshed-contemporary-powder-room-new-orleans-phvw-vp~11860230[(https://www.houzz.com/photos/classicism-refreshed-contemporary-powder-room-new-orleans-phvw-vp~11860230) Do you have any pictures you could share with me of splashbacks that would keep the room from feeling too modern? I like vintage, but not too ginger-bready if that makes sense. :)...See MoreUser
