My windowless power room is painted navy blue. I love it.

My 5x5 PR is dark gray. Previously it was a deep blue. It's not a space you spend a lot of time in so a dark color is not oppressive. Besides....if you do paint it a light color it's not going to make it feel bigger I don't think, so why not go for the drama?

peaches, ask yourself what ambience you want in that room. Elegance? Exotic? Cheery? Rustic, etc......That will help you know what direction you wish to go in color-wise.

I didn't used to care for darker colors in small rooms, and would still refrain from colors like dark red, (a burgundy may be the exception) but I think navy, a deep charcoal or even an eggplant or plum would be really pretty for a powder room.

I love dramatic dark colors on the walls of any room including bathroom and powder rooms. We just finished my husband's bathroom with a darkish wall color, black tile and a dark wood (porcelain) floor, dark cabinetry and a dramatic granite. Its rustic and masculine but elegant.

Ohhh, I would have loved to use eggplant or plum but hubby isn't big on purple :(

This is my chocolate powder room. Not quite as elegant as the Internet pics above! I bet those don't have a rust stain on the sink! Color is BM Whitall Brown. Most like the first and third pics. But the chocolate brown makes m pine ceiling look like leather. It's really cool. Also have the wide-pine flooring in there.

So many wonderful suggestions! Tibbrix, yes, I definetely want an elegant ambience. My first thought was navy because I love it, but you all have me broadening out my choices. The main color in the hallways and kitchen/dining area/great room- one big open room- is SW Worldly Gray, a light beigey gray. A completely separate area of 2 guest rooms will be Wythe Blue and a color coordinating for that bath. But the little powder room in my mind can be anything I want it to be. Agree? I'm looking now at chocolate Browns and also Caponata for sure. I remember when that bath was posted on here. I don't want screaming purple, but I'm not expecting Caponata to be that. I'm also looking at gentlemen's Gray which isn't gray but a very dark blue with a greenish hue. Thank you all and more suggestions are always welcome!

I think that Caponata wold be gorgeous with the Worldy Gray and the Wythe blue, which is such a beautiful color.

Yes, powder room can be anything you want it to be! Generally speaking, doors to powder rooms are closed when someone is in there, so the are their own little environment, their own world. A dark color with some oomph behind it will really make it so, with the right lighting. I'm going to try to find the thread with the Caponata powder room. I was blown away when she put the pics up. So beautiful!

I think you can never go wrong either with the right chocolate brown, a very sophisticated, elegant and luxurious color, IMO. Underused!

Thanks so much, Tib. Finding that post was going to be my morning's assignment for myself. It is gorgeous, so deep and rich. I will be doing a sample board as soon as the builders are finished. The builder paints the whole house the Worldly Gray I chose and the rest is up to us to change after we officially own the house. Wythe Blue is one of my few "that paint will be in my house someday" colors and it matches the bedding in both guest rooms, so that was an easy choice. 6 more weeks to go; can't wait. We have moved from Atlanta to FL.

It seems to me EVERYONE is doing it--has been since the 90's..I was hoping it would be done. People must like it given its longevity. I am not one of the fans but YOU live there!!

Just something to consider. You're probably going to laugh (most people have) but our bathroom lights are on dimmers. I have 3 sets of lights in my bathroom and all are on dimmers. DH's newly remodeled bathroom is dark and dramatic (and windowless). It's nice at night and even during the day to have the lights on and dimmed. Bathroom (especially powder rooms) deserve ambiance too! :) A dimly lit bathroom at night is nice when taking your evening bath and getting ready for bed. Dim lights are nice when nature calls in the middle of the night. Then there's the energy saving/light bulb saving aspect :)

I painted my small laundry room with Caponata. I didn't test because I felt like going on a whim this time. The color grew on me, but it's very dark and even looks black at times. Mine doesn't read at all like the top pic of the bathroom. The second one, toward the bottom left is a little closer. It's more eggplant and I'd prefer something warmer and more red brown if I felt like painting again. Just test. I think navy or dark gray would be nice too.

our last powder room was windowless and I had a dark wallpaper up... loved it! I loved it at night especially when entertaining with a candle lit in there... so pretty and 'inviting'... lol!

I have a small windowless PR and I painted it in what looks like a Hermes orange. I love it. People either love it or hate it, but that's their issue. They don't need to spend a lot of time there IAC.

Glad to hear you sound excited about the Caponata. 'Tis true that you can never tell what a paint color really looks like until it is actually up on the wall in the room to be painted and interacting with everything in there, including and especially the lighting. I also think painting swatches on a wall, even in the room to be painted, is useless. It's so deceived by the existing wall color surrounding it. I have found that, painting the swatch right up to any trim, coming from behind a fixture, like a sink, etc., really helps to get a good idea as to what the color will look like. Fortunately for you, the light in your powder room doesn't really change throughout the day, since you don't have a window, so you won't get any surprises, like in the morning it's great color, but in the afternoon, it goes blah, or whatever.
