I was downtown and I backed into this car and got out and checked and the police was called and asked us to follow and we both did to this street that was quiet and we parked on opposite sides as he could go and question both of us separately and guess hoped for no conflicts, gonig at each other. The lady went on and on and, there was a group of homeless guys there and they were watching and the police had asked for witnesses and she told the police those people, unreal homeless who wouldn't have an address or phone to contact them and even the police looked at them and like you crazy lady look. She went on and on and I said the first time I did hit but nothing and then she came up as I was trying to back up to get out of intersection and she hit me but said I hit her and went on and on about dents and I said the first when I got out to check her car is full of dents that dent was there before. Police looked and agreed with me and so did the insurance people when I called them and the police gave their report to them all agreed the lady was trying to get something out of nothing I did and she had to pay big time I was told, good.

Oh no Susan, your new car. I hope it's not really bad. The police will get the one who hit you with the licence #. Good for you for being so observant. Don't think I would remember the # after just being rammed.

I'm so sorry. Accidents always shake me up even if I'm not hurt. Good job on memorizing the license plate. I'm not sure I would be able to do that with my memory issues. I'd make a terrible witness anyway. I saw an accident happen right in front of me once and my brain immediately went blank. Seriously, I wouldn't have been able to describe one element of what took place except that it did.

I can't believe he just drove away. Sure hope they get him! So sorry you have to go through all this but glad you got his license.

I came so close from not being crunched but this lady hit me good! (I had a empty safety lane I tried to pull into) it was so annoying! she wasn't watching the flow of the traffic...long story short because I was going thru chemo, I couldn't get to the courthouse so she got away without anything but payment...

Glad you seem OK, but remember that sometimes after an accident, pain doesn't show up for a couple days. If you start hurting or have unusual symptoms, go see your doctor.

Oh no Susan. That's awful... it's your new car. I hope the police get him...and charge him with causing the accident and then leaving the scene. Even if he went to the parking lot he should have waited until you got there. What did your insurance company say - I guess you'll have to get an estimate. I hope it won't be too bad.

Lucille, I remember after I got rear-ended some years ago (a teenager was looking for his gum under the seat), my neck got wrenched and hurt afterward. I doubt that will happen this time. It wasn't that big of a jolt, although I kind of shrieked when it happened. :-)

Maire, the trooper gave me the case number and told me to tell the insurance company the hit-and-run was under investigation. I'll call them tomorrow.

It's funny . . . this summer I was stopped for a light near another shopping district when an accident happened right in front of me. A car drove into the side of another. Really crumpled it. I remember feeling sorry for the person who'd been hit, because now all the nuisance jobs related to the accident were going to take up her time. Yup.

I am so sorry that you got hit, but am so happy you are ok.
They will get the guy, if you have damage, he has damage. The way you are describing the accident, I suspect his front fender and headlight are punched out. Unless he is a back yard mechanic, he is going to have to get it repaired somewhere. I know here, for most damages, you have to have a police damage sticker on your vehicle before a body shop can repair it. No sticker and they have to report it to the police.

Oh Susan, that's awful. I wouldn't know what to do in an accident. Apparently we're to exchange info and info from witnesses and then drive to a Collision Reporting Center.

Damage is much more severe these days. Bumpers are part of the car, and everything is plastic and light aluminum, and a minor crunch can cause a lot of damage.

I'm so sorry to hear this has happened. I hope you can get it all straightened out to your satisfaction. What a bummer!!

Many years ago I was walking down the street with a friend and we witnessed someone run a red light and hit another car! It wasn't horrible, no one was hurt, but I insisted that we stay there and wait for the police and give our statements. The person who was hit was very grateful that we did. I couldn't have done anything else. It was so wrong and I don't understand how anyone can deny they are in the wrong when an accident happens.

Well, the police contacted the guy and told him to call me, which he did. He left a message, and I'll call him back. As I suspected, he'd pulled into KMart thinking I would join him there, but when he didn't see me right away, he left.

Oh shoot, I just hate that this happened to you, Susan. It sounds like this guy just saved himself from getting ticketed for hit-and-run, but he should've hung around longer knowing that it would take a few minutes for you to get over there. I'm really glad that the police were able to contact him. Be sure to make a list of everything you want to know before you call him, because it might be hard to remember everything if it's not written down. I hope that he is insured and that you are not out any money, because the inconvenience is bad enough. And I am so glad that you are not injured.

Woody called the guy who hit me again last night and left him a voicemail telling him to call us today or that we would be contacting the police department. Hopefully that will scare him into calling. Driving around with no insurance is a good way to get your drivers license (or maybe it's just the registration?) revoked in our state. I'm sure he would not like for that to happen.

What a jerk! He was trying to get away with it. I hope they ticket him for hit and run. His actions show poor character and low morals. Glad you were ok.

Flamingo....driving without insurance if stopped, says this on the back of our car registrations here in Colorado, your car will be impounded.

"IF" he's uninsured, then you may have(I do) uninsured motorist insurance, it pays your deductible.

Clearing the scene of an accident is actually a GOOD idea. Thinking of others......he may be a VERY nice person.

I am sorry this happened....it does take a LOT if time to get work done on your car any more...

If I were driving, I wouldn't leave the scene unless I was severely blocking any traffic. The positions of the involved vehicles are impt for police to see in writing up reports (but in this case, the damage will very well speak for itself). But in the end, I think it's Murphy's Law: if you move, police are likely to ask why you did so and tell you you should've stayed put; if you stayed, they just tell you to move...

Alisande: Even tho the guy said he thought or assumed you'd meet up at the mall parking lot, (as far as I'm understanding) he didn't get out of the car to tell you this (why not?), and the fact that he pulled away -- backing up AROUND you -- says a lot. And he couldn't be bothered to wait at the parking lot? How long did it take for you to get through traffic -- 10-15-20 minutes? Not so long he couldn't wait. He should still be charged with hit-and-run, in my opinion -- and I encourage you to make sure the police know there was no conversation about meeting up someplace else.

Here, I'll make it the third one? Maybe. I was driving home the other day, and I had a blowout! Not just a flat tire. We heard BANG! and I said, what was that? He said maybe we ran over a rock? And then the car started to try to swerve. I did keep control and then I heard it--a flat tire. As I pulled over, it was smoking! Smelled like burned rubber to me, and it practically welded the tire to the axle?! What's worse? I just got the car in July (used, it's 18 years old) and I hadn't checked the spare to make sure it fit and was in good shape :O The equipment to change the tire didn't really fit or work well :( The jack would only turn a half turn at a time. The tire iron was too long? It kept hitting the ground. What was cool though? Someone else had fixed a flat in the exact same spot, and accidentally left a tire iron-that fit my bolts. I had another shorter tire iron, but it too, did not fit. So it took three tire irons, a lot of turning for the jack, and holding my breath for the tire to work. Yep, the tire turned out ok. I had planned to buy new tires next month, but now, I will have new tires this weekend. Two more days instead of two more weeks... hurray! Back to normal then. Whew.

Now, we don't need a third car incident. How's that for closing the loop? Well, I tried!

Jasdip - in our no-fault province - well it sure as heck wasn't my fault - the police do not come unless one of you requires an ambulance. Not one single person would be a witness and on a busy Toronto street there were plenty. Of course they all told me to move my "f" car - but I couldn't drive it. I wanted the police to come since it was so very obvious that it was not my fault.

I alone went to the collision centre - in the tow truck.

My car was written off - 48,000 km on it - we do not drive a lot. Personally I felt the fellow who hit me should have had to pay for a portion of my new car. Our premiums did not go up as a result of the accident - but they did because of the new car. Fortunately I was found not at fault (he had a history)!

And I keep seeing him.

I am (was?) someone who would give my contact information to someone if I witnessed an accident - now I am not so quick to oblige.
