Are you talking about a CASE (not just the cover that protects your screen)?

you want one that will take the impact if you drop it....like an Otterbox or a Belkin. You need a screen protector also....if you get it from the phone store make sure they will put it on for you also - they do it much faster and easier and end up with no bubbles in it either.

My husband got a water proof case and it's hard for him to hear callers and it's hard for callers to understand him, so unless water is a real issue for you, I wouldn't get that kind. He's a fishing guide and his phone went swimming twice, accidentally, so I insisted he get a waterproof case, but I hate it.

I have a relatively simple case for mine along with a glass cover for the screen.

If you want to see a lot of covers, go to a Best Buy, they have a big selection.

I like a case which is brightly colored because it makes it easy to find in my purse or when I lay it somewhere in the house. Mine is bright pink with flowers. Also I like the sides of the case to have some ridges or some kind of not-slippery material so it's easy to hold onto and cannot slip out of my hand.

I got a Samsung Galaxy Light, I want to get a larger screen phone after I figure out how to use a smart phone.

EBay is a great resource but be absolutely sure you search for the exact make and model of your phone. I have bought a few sparkling bling cases for dressy occasions but daily I have an otterbox, excellent protective case, and I also use a Speck which is also very good.
You can spend from $2 to over $50.
There's a website that has the otterbox cases in beautiful colors and design, you can get your name on them or engraved etc, for about the same price as a regular otterbox. I can look for it if you are interested.
Many of the otterbox cases have a cover over the screen so you don't need a separate screen protector. I personally don't use a screen protector, never had any problems with scratches since the gorilla glass and the super strong glass has come out.

Speck's Candy Shell cases are good. They are hard plastic, lined with silicone (acts as a shock absorber), and have a raised silicone lip or bezel to protect the screen if the phone is dropped. They offer a few different versions (with and without "grips") and are fairly low profile. They provide a good amount of protection.

They were on sale at Best Buy recently, not sure if they still are.

I agree, no need for the huge cover/cases unless you're really hard on a phone or have it in a harsh environment. Typically, a cover like murrysmom has is enough. But I would strongly second the suggested screen protector. I don't use a case because it's on my person every waking moment. I don't want all that bulk. And I rarely drop it.

Most of the comments here seem to be from women and the problem I had with a protector case wouldn't apply. I was "sold" one for my first Android phone and I discarded it after a few months. The added bulk and thickness made it uncomfortable to carry the phone in a pants pocket.

Several (maybe 3) phones later, I still go with no case, no screen protector, just plain, and I've had no problems. No drops, no scratches, nada.

Protectors can be enjoyed if you use them as decoration for your phone but I question whether any real protection is provided by one or is needed.

I'm going to start out with my bulkier case (and screen cover), I can always change to the lite version if all goes well.
It may come in handy though. As I age I seem to be losing a bit of hand strength, a couple of times this past year a plate has escaped my grasp and fallen and broken. :(
