A (Personal) Case for NO Cell Phone Use While Driving
Comments (17)A quick update on Mike . . . he's been released from the hospital, had his front 4 teeth wired back in by an oral surgeon, who thinks he can save them, had his broken hand set and casted and his broken jaw wired/set. He's covered with scrapes and bruises, but he's alive! My sweet sister has picked up his bike from the fire station that was storing it, has already spent hours on the phone with her insurance company, which has waived her deductible and that's going well. She's missed several days of work without pay, which she couldn't afford, but had to, and has met with the police about the driver's insurance, etc. That info I haven't heard yet. So, things are slowly getting back to normal for them. Thank you for all your kind words and prayers for my nephew, Mike. I's my hope that if anything positive has been gained from my posting it here, it's that: 1) we all are reminded that even good people, like the guy who hit Mike ~ or any of us ~ can make one foolish mistake (like texting, dialing or talking while driving) that could result in terrible, hurtful consequences. 2) that we make sure that we (and our loved ones) program I.C.E. phone numbers into our cell phones, just in case. I'm so glad that Mike did! 3) and, if you or your loved ones bike, use bike helmets! Mike didn't and paid a high price for not wearing his. Again, many thanks for your kindness! Comments (24)I will NEVER get rid of my land line.We have the LL,cordless phones and a cell.We only use the cell when we go out.I use the cordless phone most of the time in the house(Yes i know it's part of the land line)but we've had a few occassions when the power goes out and the cordless doesn't work, and the cell we have is one of the "pay as you go" types. The majority of my family is 3000 miles away, and we talk on the phone all the time. Our power went out for 3 hours saturday during our big rain storm, and my sisters were without power some for 2 days, and one cousin still doesn't have any,and probably won't until sometime tomorrow. So if they didn't have LL,what would they have done?? The batteries in the cell probably wear down, and the only other place to plug them in would be the car, which they would have to shovel out first in some cases. So thanks but no thanks,i'll keep my LL,which also has unlimited calling 24/7,and it's part of our pkg with our provider, and is actually cheaper than when i use to have to pay separate for the LL many years ago.Our bundle is 132.00 a month which i don't think is bad at all for internet, phone, and t.v.JMO Kathi...See MoreCell Phone Number - Nooooo
Comments (12)Many grandparents are slow to get cell phones, or keep them turned off much of the time, because they fear they are running down the batteries. They may have a new cell phone number because they recently signed up for new phones or something. Many also do not believe in call waiting, and their land land can be tied up for hours (if they are anything like mine) and so it can be vital to have a second number to reach them on. If the bio mom is a caring mom, then what in the world are you thinking by not allowing her to have "ALL" numbers regarding her children. Even when kids go on playdates, you get home numbers, cell numbers etc. Even schools want home, work, all cell numbers, including those of nearest relative, AND up to three friends home numbers AND cell numbers. A mom and dad has EVERY right to have access to "all" phone numbers in connection to their children, unless something is wrong with them or something. And even if the kids have cell phones, many don't bother bringing them when they are just out with grandparents. Many also might have theirs turned off or charging. I know some kids who always have their cell phone, and others that rarely have theirs. Treat others as you want to be treated. If the kids were with her relatives, and your DH asked for the cell number, how would he like it if she and her new boyfriend refused to give it to him? Sounds pretty bad when you turn it around, doesn't it? Do the right thing. If she calls more then the grandparents are comfortable with, they can either say something, or not pick up until they are ready to talk. But she has the "right" to be able to reach her children, ...just as their dad does. Geez.......See Morespeaking of phones--Land line? Cell? Both?
Comments (45)I misplace my TV remote enough that I don't want to be looking for my one and only phone. I have a 10 room two story house and wouldn't even hear the phone unless it was strapped on my body. I have three phones downstairs and they are always on their stands when not in use. The cell is in the car because I always forgot to bring it in the house. It's not a smart phone,( we opted for an iPad instead) just a flip top Samsung and we 're not on a program. We "buy" minutes every year and it's pretty cheap. Our phones are part of our Verizon bundle... My son has only a cell phone, no land lines and kept his old number....See Morealways1stepbehind
