I assume that the difficultly-visible thread is for your instruction when you look for them when they're hung up in the closet.

How about getting a flashlight ...maybe one of the wind-up kind if you want to be environmentally conscious?

How about hanging a card labelled" blue" or "black" over the hanger for each kind ... (if you're getting too blue over whether they're black or not)?

I've had that problem with Gloria Vanderbilt pants from Kohl's too - until I discovered that the inside of the waist bands are different colors.

A little iron on patch with the color name inside the waistband solves the guessing problem.

Just take some blue thread (can be any shade of blue) and sew a little patch onto the inside of the waistband in the back of the navy pants. THOSE are the blue pants. Anything else is black.

If there is a tag, take a Sharpee marker and mark the blue ones "B."

I too think you could just write something on the tag, n for navy blue and b for black. A Sharpie won't run in the wash.
It would be more visible and it sounds like you don't have any thread on hand.

I did it with an ordinary pen, and just wrote B and N on the labels. If you ever notice them fading, just redo it, but I've never had to.

Another option is to use different color hangers for black and navy pants.

Or hang a colored tag on the hanger - then you won't have to look inside the pants.

I agree that there are several different ways to identify you slacks without having to sew thread into them. But to answer your question about sewing thread being colour fast, the answer is yes. At least every brand and colour I have ever used is. I like Guterman brand for most everything I do. Never had a problem with it bleeding.

I have that problem as well, and it is matching the shoes to the slacks that puzzle me. I have just put a label of masking tape on the hangars so when I put them on the hangars, usually in a better lighted laundry room, they are identified. Then,Hopefully I won't be wearing one blue and one black shoe..... at least to the car.

I write on the tag with a sharpie, or cut a corner off the tag on the navy ones.

I just hold up whatever I'm looking at next to something I know to be black. If it isn't black, you'll know immediately.

As far as the thread color inside, you could use pretty much anything inside the pants to FLAG they are the blue ones. You could even just write something on the white pocket material with a sharpie.

As far as hanging in the closet, hang the blue pants on a different color hanger than the black pants. If you are using wooden or don't have any different color hangers, then put a tag or something on the hangers that hold the blue ones.

I'm sorry, but I don't get using only a hanger to designate the color of pants. What happens after they're washed? Don't you have to decipher which color they are all over again? It's probably good for a backup measure and to make it really easy early in the morning before coffee. Just wondering!

I wouldn't want to have to check the inside of a waistband, pocket, etc. to learn which was which - I prefer the idea of a different colour hanger, or having a marker hung over the hook at the top of the hanger, etc. to be informed at my first glance.

Before you hang the pants, you would look at your thread or whatever marking you chose to separate the blue from the black. Once you look at your markings inside the pants and say "hey that one is blue", you would then hang them on a blue hanger or a hanger with a blue tag. Make sense now?

So it's not just "only" a hanger. Cool. I was confused!

Yeah she was wondering not only how to mark the pants but also how to mark them once they are hanging up in a dark closet.
